You really do have to worry when you see Villa making significant signings without selling first and then you see us still not signing a CB with 3 weeks to go until the start of the season.

Villa will firmly have an eye on that 5th spot as they know that gets them CL, they are making big boy moves to make it happen.

Pizzes me off no end, sort that defence out, tell Kane he is seeing out his final year and we almost certainly finish top 6 and would be in a great position for top 5. Sure we would lose Kane for nothing and it would be awful if he pitched up elsewhere in the league, but with CL football we might be able to sign a top drawer replacement instead of looking at goal scorers in the Error divisie - obviously hoping lightening strikes twice following the great success we had with Vincent Jannsen
They are a club going places, we should not get to despondent. We know how the club operates, acting like a corner shop.
We generate more revenue than villa, but their owners are not ditherers or shy to make bold moves.
Time to sit back and wait until this reign is over, its all we can do now.

Because it's at best a flawed question. You're not locked into having to sign a player better than Son.
You're looking for: CF+Son > Son + Manor. That's, projecting, not that difficult to do. I'd think Vlahovic/Martinez would fit the bill, but I'd love to have Evan Ferguson who has proven he can do it in the PL with a goal in just over 100 mins.

It's not a flawed question at all.

We have a 60m striker who's never had a run of games in that position and the clubs sixth top goalscorer of all time capable of playing the position needed in this system. It's not feasible to go and spend our sum on a striker.

If we sold Kane. I'd be fucking furious if we didn't use that money to strengthen the overall squad and instead spunk it on one player.

We can barely afford two centre backs as it is (or atleast unwilling to do so). So selling Kane isn't going to allow us to go and sign a Martinez in the first place.

We'd be best off going out and gambling on Doku and letting him and Solomon develop on that wing.

Only question I have is LwF or RWF,

Lots of people say Mitoma but he’s massively overrated and had 1 half season. Also 27,

If Kvara could be done for 80m that’s the closest to a no brainer imo

Doku, Gnonto, Bynoe-Gittens, Lauriente. These are the types I'd be gambling on to compete with Solomon on the left.

Son and Richarlison as forwards for this season whilst we head out and scout the upcoming talent we make a big bid for next summer.

Kulusevski and Gil for the right side as well as the likes of Porro too

I think when there are glaringly obvious deficiencies in the squad, that's a big reason not to do it.

We need two centre backs. Id argue depth at left back if Reguilon leaves and a central midfielder if Hojbjerg ends up leaving. And most definitely a wide forward.

Meanwhile, we have a 60m Brazilian international striker who's never had a run of games in his preferred position and the sixth highest goalscorer in the clubs history capable of playing up top for the mean time.
This doesn’t make any sense at all.

- We need CBs regardless of Kane leaving

- If PEH goes his transfer fee goes towards paying for a replacement (if that necessary)

- The requirement you’ve listed for a wide forward could easily be solved if we kept Son there and bought a CF.

What you’re saying is you see Son as a striker and want transfers dictated by that? That’s fine, but requirements at CB and CM do not and should not impact this. If Kane goes we need a forward (whether wide or CF). The choice should be dictated by the quality of what’s available and what Ange wants, not some notion that Son is going to be the perfect forward for us this season when there are many reasons to believe that might not be the case.

That we're unwilling to spend money on. If we did, we'd have had them both wrapped up by the time the tickets were stamped for Australia.

Kane going frees up that cash...

Absolutely. Which doesn't help our need to sign two centre backs...

No one seems to be able to name an affordable striker, when taking into consideration the majority of our funds will be going on centre backs, who will come in and score 20+ goals in all comps.

Kane going frees up the funds to strengthen the squad. Two new centre backs, depth elsewhere for outgoing players and a wide forward.

Why gamble on a wide forward instead of a CF I think is the question?

Why Doku over Toney for example (outside of the ban)?

You need to stop referencing the “6th highest scorer in our history” too, when 95% of those goals were scored playing a position you suggest moving him from.

Look I’m not against giving Richy a run and as I said I can see some logic in playing Son through the middle, what I find incredibly naive about your analysis is that you seem to think Son can play effectively as a CF for a whole season for this team, when his back to goal and hold up play is horrific.

We know we’re going to play better football and have the ball more, but there are always times when you need an outlet. It doesn’t mean we need a lump, it means we need more than Son offers in that area.

It’s a huge risk.

A point about Sonny: he's 31. We may want to think about moving him to a more central position regardless of what's happening with Kane. It's pretty unusual to have guys in their 30s running up and down flanks.
