I think the main difference will be that we will have more of the ball and should be winning it higher up the pitch. In theory, it should reduce the amount of pressure on the defence and expose them less to the individual mistakes we saw when we invited pressure on.

Ultimately though, the current players we have aren't really suited to high line play, as they don't have the required recovery pace.

Which is why at least 2 pacey CB's are a necessity rather than a 'nice to have.'

Yeah that's the thing, to play this way we will need players who suit it. Certainly by becoming more proactive instead of reactive you can concede less, but if playing proactive, fun football was super easy, everyone would be hugely successful.

We'll need the right pieces. There's a few in place but a lot missing.

1 CB isn't enough though is it. Say we get 1 decent CB who happens to get injured...we're then left with Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Tanganga etc all of whom should have been sold in previous windows.
Exactly! Get rid of at least of any 3 out of Dav dier Rodon jasphet davies and buy 2 good CBs. We have dorrington as well who we should show faith in. Otherwise what is the point of having academy if we never have any belief in them. Sane with buying Phillips he goes straight into first team squad and on tour. Surely someone like dorrington must be thinking hey what about me?

We have been linked with some other CBs this summer - Nelson, Tosin, Andersen.

Would be happy with Tapsoba and one of Tosin or Nelson.
Why not just sieve the little extra and get vdv? What is the point of buying 2nd options? You’d only have to get rid later if they are crap. Get the 2 they have identified, get the deals sorted and move on.

If we don't sign 2 top CBs this window is a failure, even if we get Mbappe for free.

Our need for top CBs is much greater than our need for Harry Kane next season.

I 100% rather have world class CB and Richarlison up top than Harry Kane and Dier/Davies/Sanchez at the back next season.
Rich? His pants. Watched the gane today abd that simple pass he had to play he put it of play. Has really zero tech ability. I reckon if Ange continues to see the sane again in next few ganes I’m sure he’d be looking to get rid. Plenty of players out there who would cost a lot less but have better technical and goal scoring ability. In fact I didn’t even see him press that much tbh.

In theory.

But remember that goal we conceded against UTD. Single ball over the top, Dier shat the bed, simple finish.

High line football is great, but you need your CBs to be fast and alert to danger. Romero is the only one that comes close (and I still have my concerns with him).

We will get punished if we don’t have those CBs. An in form Bissouma makes zero difference.

Do you know what Eric Cantona said to Deschamp's face when he dared to criticize him for losing possession?

Eric Cantona replied to him '' you're just a fucking water carrier and that's what you will always be, your job is to give me the ball and I will do whatever the fuck I want with it''.

I'll say it again, everyone that has played football knows this, best players never respect an inferior player as their captain.

This is like forcing alphas to accept beta as their leader, it's simply against the laws of the nature.
Dies t mean the best player is a better captain. I’m sure messi in his prime inhis twenties was not captain of argies.

For the immediate term, it's 2 for me. I'm quite relaxed about the options we have up front and in midfield, but then I rate Sarr more than many on here. I've seen him described as our 5th choice midfielder on here. I honestly think he'll be getting quite a few starts for us this season. YaYa mark 2 really isn't an outlandish statement where he's concerned, he's mustard.

Anyway, for our immediate issues, 2 CB's are the must IMO. If that's all the remaining business we do this window then I would be fairly content. Of course, this changes if Kane does end up going, but that only really means that we find a forward who complements what we already have.

Fixing the backline immediately makes us stronger. Goals we will score with or without Kane, but stopping the haemorrhaging at the back will lead to more points over the long run. It also reduces the pressure on the front line, who won't be going into games thinking we'll have to score 2-3 goals just to stay in a match.

Strikers win games, but defences win Championships.

You're preaching to the choir here mate.

High line play is only really feasible with quick CB's, which was why I said that in the post you quoted.

How do you stop Sanchez from just falling over for no reason or Dier refusing to fucking tackle?

Is everyone so thoroughly mindfucked by the state of our transfer business over the years that they now try to talk themselves into accepting this bullshit?
I can’t imagine either of those two divs will start a game. You are spot on re: Sanchez’s legs giving way and falling over - and Dier not tackling. That’s not tactical or a blip of bad form, it’s ingrained
