I didn't ask you what the clubs top targets were....

"If the 3 we're linked with aren't of sufficient standard in your opinion; then who is?"

So; Tapsoba and who else?

(I just noticed you've now moved to the using the phrase "Elite LCB"..... Such as?)

"Fairly reasonable question."

Yet you're bobbing-and-weaving like a politician. Not sure why.........

I don't matter.

What matters is the club getting a top level CB to play with Romero but really it should be 2.

They have needed to get this position sorted for a while now and failed.

It's looking increasingly like they are working their way down the list. From the OUTSIDE Tapsoba never looked likely because he was reported to be their top target and expensive.

Me personally, I can't see how they can ID VDV as a top-level CB with only 1 year of senior football in a top league but if they do then they need to be right because from the outside it looks more like VDV is who they go for if they don't want to pay for Tapsoba.

Underneath it all, if they get through another window without a top class CB, they have failed. again.

I actually thought some of our best football this past season came with Davies at LB mate.

Off the top of my head, the West Ham-Forest winning run in February was when Conte finally put him at LB to solidify that side. And then finishing the season he was at LB as well under Mason. I’m happy with him there as a rotation option, he’s a great squad player.

At the very least, his presence means that keeping all of our other FOUR left backs seems non-sensical.

I certainly think his best games for us last season came at left wing back. Chelsea and West Ham in particular, I agree.

As back up, I think he's more than fine. We need rid of two left backs this season, Davies wouldn't be one of them.

Whether Tottenham would pay the fee on Bastoni is irrelevant. He said he wasn’t leaving. Not getting him had nothing to do with the fee.
It’s the same reason that no-one will get Eric Dier this summer. He refuses to leave.
Repeat after me: Players have agency.

irrelavant debate.

They didn't get a top target LCB.

For whatever reason.

IF that was true, why were they even chasing Bastoni? Surely you speak to the agent and he says yes or no from the players perspective.
We needed a striker last window, we didn't bother chasing Mbappe. Why not?

Look at some of the utter cunts in our fanbase…

The hate for Big Dav is shocking to me. Sure he isn’t the amazing £40m prospect we thought we’d get from Ajax but he’s not done anything wrong has he? He’s just not very composed on the ball and lacks suitability to the league.

I think he’s stepped in and performed admirably in situations when he was woefully out of form and not being played. He runs his ass off, he puts his body on the line for everything, he really tries.

Sure he isn’t good enough but I’ll never abuse a Davinson Sanchez like that. He’s never given me the impression that he’s anything but a hard-working admirable lad.

Listen none of us have exact details on what is going on behind closed doors in negotiations.

Oh I'm sorry........ It's just like you have been speaking like you know EXACTLY what's going on.

Here is what I DO know beyond any doubt

- we have THIRTY bloody first team players at the club who will have to be parsed down to 25 at maximum when we register our squads
-we have sold Harry Winks and that’s it
-I am going to assume that there is at least some interest in this lot of 30 players. The fact is that none of them have been sold or really even close to sold by late July.

Are you seriously OK with that? What the fuck.

No.... I'd much rather have seen some more players sold..... I didn't argue that point with you, so pls drop the strawman..

I asked you what "TWO" deals had been "scuppered". You cited 2 deals which still very much 'alive' and near completion (PEH & Dav) and then rattled off some random names about which we've seen no reported interested.

......Perhaps you think that all we need to do is merely declare our junk for sale and the Saudi's will shower us with petro-dollars; but alas not.

Sure, that one was tongue in cheek, I was just pointing out that even our biggest success this summer comes with a caveat.

Funny; cos it just read like the rest of your hyperbole.

So in context; it should have just been ignored? If only I'd have know....

Roflmao. I mean Levy’s incompetence in that Kane wants to leave altogether. Were you not around for the Gattuso and Nuno saga? I don’t blame Kane for wanting out after that at ALL.

I agree with you. That isn’t on Levy at all. What is on Levy is that his best player is a wantaway.

Not exclusively, no....... But that's why it's all "dragging" out is it? (i.e. Your OG complain that I responded to)

don’t call me a twat when I’m presenting real arguments and being on topic. Come the fuck on.

I called you a twat for chatting shit at me about sucking Levy's cock......

Spare me your indignant, back-peddling innocence crap. You're the one that saw fit to start with the insults.

I imagine they haven't been able to identify one and being out of Europe probably hinders us further more.

Tapsoba is further along in his development but who's to say the club thinks Van de Ven has alot more upside and potential to be better at the same age?

We're all frustrated we haven't got a new centre back in before we travelled to Australia but I am sure we will get one in before the season starts.

Tapsoba was always about feigning ambition.

Has been since the start imo.

No I can't prove that. It's my read on the patterns in the way it has been reported and the way Levy prioritized getting Maddison done first.

Unfortunately, most fans fail to realise that footballers are human beings.

That Dele interview should have opened everyone's eyes.

Perhaps.

But if we were willing to go to the lengths of feigning ambition, why on earth would we use Tapsoba of all players as the pawn?

Half of this fanbase had never heard of him.

Ridiculous that we’ve not got a centre back in.

The most glaringly obvious hole in our side and we’re a few weeks away from the start of the season without one.

“But you need to get players out the door before you bring new ones in”. Then why haven’t we done it?

Levy really doesn’t like giving managers help does he. “Here’s an uphill battle but before you set off, carry take this deadweight up with you.”

That’s a lot of talk about being ‘top class’ without actually naming a top-class CB that’s available.
Are we counting Tapsoba as top-class?
He’s probably not considered one of the best 5 (10?) CBs in the Bundesliga or is the definition of ‘top-class’ = ‘unavailable for Spurs’ in which case we’ll always miss out on ‘top-class’ CBs.
Personally, while it is risky, I’d rather have a fleet, natural left-footed CB to play with Romero.

Half of this fanbase had never heard of him.

I fully believe they had identified him as a player that they wanted and went about finding out what the deal would look like.

But after the first price quote Levy will have known he won't be spending that much on him. After that it would be bad PR from club to fans tp just say "our top target is too expensive". So you string it along feigning that you might pay and give the impression that you are committed to getting a top CB.

Aren't we still in dialogue with Leverkusen?

What would be the point in looking to piss off yet another club?

Apparently new technology installed has identified Tapsoba and VDV as the most ideal defenders for Ange’s system so the question arises that why we have not bought either of them. It seems to be a waste of money in setting up the new tech.

Doesn't fucking matter.

None of us get paid to talent ID for the club.

They need to decide who they want. If they decide they want a player, establish the player is interested, then decide they can't afford the player, it's a lack of conviction to signing the player.

Maybe they are right, maybe they are wrong,

Doesn't change the fact that they haven't solved the problem position in the squad. And it's not the first window they have needed to fill this position and it's not the first time we have seen the pursuit of a top target go this way.

Can anyone tell me what they’ve seen from Sarr that makes him this great player? I’ve never seen him for his previous club or really noticed him with Senegal. He might turn out to be a cracking player for us but he’s done nothing in a Tottenham shirt to say he’s going to play a big part for us.
Neither has Maddison.

From the games I've seen him play, both for us, Senegal and Metz, he has very good vision, he's positionally disciplined, has that knack of being able to pinch the ball off a player when he doesn't look like he'll ever get close, has an engine that'll run for days, can play on the half turn, is press resistant...

I think you get my drift.

He's 20 years old and, IMO, is ready for first team Football at the highest level, and then some.
