1. In isolation, yes. This CB search isn't in isolation, it's a string of reasons why it hasn't happened.

Some worthy of criticism; some not.

"I don't care why" is up there with "It doesn't matter if X is true or not".

It's just this in word-form:

2. That is still my attitude, I just avoided that debate because it goes down the same alley every time.

Unsurprisingly; yes people will point out that it's a flawed sentiment.

By your reckoning as long as we outbid the Saudi's this summer then Mbappe ought to be a yido come September (despite the fact that he giggled at the idea of coming here..... As Messi have done if we'd have approached him at our Pochy best in 2017).

You're so much smarter than that; but for the purposes of the subject you choose selective ignorance.

3. It is fair to say that. That was my entire point.

Inter were portrayed to be happy with our bid.

If a good wage bump and a reunion with his former manager (his so-called 'mentor' no less!) wasn't enough to entice Bastoni then he was obviously pretty determined to stay. Despite what you might chose to think for the sake of winning an argument; vastly overpaying for a player that doesn't want to come anyway is not smart.

What's for damn sure though is that this would all have been flipped to a criticism of not being serious if it came to pass that we tamely asked his agent and accepted "no" at first approach. Instead though cos we did proceed to make bids in hope of swaying club and player; it was just for optics in order to con the fans and we were never actually serious.

Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Conte wanted Bastoni, I do wonder how things might have worked out of we had managed to get him. He also wanted Gvardiol. Maybe if we had bid 80-90m last summer we'd have got him because City were focused on Haaland. We can afford 80-90m on a Cb if we want to.We just don't want to do that.

£60m for Haaland was a drop in the ocean for them (a pittance!).... It's 100% likely that Gvardiol was already on their radar.

Allegedly a trf drunk Boehly's Chavs were also interested in him last summer and he didn't up there either; what does that tell you?

It's naive to think that such massively fancied talent isn't on the radar of the City's of this world and that if at all interested; it's a case of "let us know if any bids are received and we'll be right back with our offer......

Maybe we don't trust our scouting, maybe we lack conviction to signing the best players we possibly can.

Maybe; maybe.... Could be many reasons, but "reason's don't matter"..... Just like it doesn't seem to matter when examples are given of when these so-called patterns of behaviour aren't exhibited or it's shown over and over that it's not "only Spurs" that hit bumps over trfs.

Chelsea also wanted him last summer and they couldn't sign him. Don't think 80-90m would've been enough. I'm also not sure paying so much for him would've been a smart move.

He was recovering from injury last summer too (didn't manage a full 90m again between May 5th - Sep 3rd).

90m on an injured 20 year old.

(......Who's noted to have been inured for the last 124 days too FWIW)

Newcastle getting Tonali done was a great example of why it wasn't flawed. You know this.

Inter wanted 70m

They were never reported to be happy with our bid.

Didn't get Bastoni, the same patterns in the reported interest are why I've saif from the start we aren't signing Tapsoba.

Looks like I was right.

Agreed? (doesn't matter if you agree, we both know I'm right)

Reguillon
Tanganga
Rodon
Perisic
Lloris
Davinson
Hojberg
?GLC?
"Tanguy?
?Gil?

Still between 8 and 11 players to shift.

Lot of work to get done in 5 weeks of transfer window.
And that's without Harry..... Get rid of all of them except Tanguy who could come good this year..... And get in:
Tapsoba or Bremer
Van der Ven
Paulinha
Muani.
If there's a bit of money left, get a 3rd centre back... Nelson or Tosin.
I think if we get something along those lines.... We got a fighting chance of doing something this coming season. I just hope Levy don't leave everything until 2 hours before deadline like he normally fucking does.

what about his vocabulary?
It seems to me that a qualification for being on this website is to continually use foul language. Anonymous, cowardly little people who sit at their keyboards spewing out meaningless and disgraceful insults that they would be terrified to say in public. Frightens me that many surely must have children, what examples they are. Its just trying to act big but quite pathetic really.

What bingo numbers win the "we tried" excuse that gets put out for not signing Tapsoba?

Last summer with Bastoni we went with "He's a lifelong Inter fan".

Not sure we can say that with Tapsoba.

Maybe it will be Leverkeusen's fault for asking too much money?
One thing about Tapsoba is that he really is their most important defender, with 3 years on his deal, and in a position without much depth.

The comparable Spurs scenario would be if Bayern came in big for Vertonghen in 2014, we’d obviously be very hesitant to sell if it wasn’t for an exorbitant fee.

So I’m not sure how realistic he actually is in the first place even given that we plan to spunk big bucks on him.

Also, on Bastoni… fuck me did we dodge a bullet not paying 90 mill for that lump. One thing I will forever bow down to Levy for not sanctioning. Ludicrous price for a player who isn’t worth half that, and I said this last summer. Both he and Zaniolo were way overpriced and overrated.
