I don’t know, it still feels like a classic diversion tactic from Montpellier trying to get Chelsea (the club with long-standing interest) to pay up.

One positive though - if there is a time to buy a striker this summer, it is now. Because if Kane does go as most expect him to, once that cheque from Bayern clears, suddenly the price on every transfer target will go up an extra £20m. You don’t want to leave all your business until after you get the influx of cash.
Poppycock. I've never really understood this line of thinking. Not as though the Kane saga has been kept under wraps. Not like any club thinks we're buying a striker if Kane is staying. Not like any club thinks we have the leverage to keep Kane.

Look at the price West Ham have been quoted for Connor fucking Gallagher though. Suddenly the fee has gone up £10-15m after Rice went.

I agree with you and any striker would be overpriced to begin with, I’m pricing in that inflation. But that’s incredibly naive to think that the prices will be the exact same pre-sale and post sale. There’s simply a different energy and posture in the room when there’s still the presumption of uncertainty vs. when everyone knows there’s a fresh £100m burning a hole in your pocket. It’s maybe a small difference but a significant one.

Seriously how far off of challenging could this squad based on its talent be:

Vicario
Forster

Porro
Royal
Spence

Romero
Tapsoba
Van De Ven
Tosin

Udogie
Perisic
Sessegnon

Bentancur
Bissouma
Sarr
Skipp
Lo Celso
Ndombele
Maddison

Kulusevski
Solomon
Son
Richarlison
Kane

We are 3CBs away from being able to have this kind of squad. The painful rebuild isn't far away from possibly having its core and foundations set
VDV the back up LB too? No way should we plan to go into a season with Perisic and Sessegnon as the back ups there

Challenging for what? GLC and Ndombele have spent two seasons on loan and surely would have been sold if acceptable bids had come in.

Nah, that definitely wasn’t the money. It was the fact that we missed CL despite finishing 4th.

I can literally pinpoint the exact moment as the 101st minute of that cursed 2012 CL final.

All Robben had to do was bury that peno in extra time but he couldn’t and they bottled it to Roberto Di Matteo’s fighting Chavs.

The deal was all done with Lille, ITKs confirmed it, but when Chelsea won CL they got a cash injection and CL football so he picked them over us. It makes my blood boil to this day. One penalty from Robben and our entire club fortune might have changed.
Oh well then, Harry Redknapp must be wrong then...

who would be your top target to replace Kane (within reason, i.e. someone reasonably gettable and not worth 80m+, i.e. not Mbappe or Julian Alvarez etc)
How about....Kane to PSG, we take Mbappe on loan for a year then he can go to Real next year. Invest the Kane money into our defence and focus on a striker next year.
Almost certain PSG wouldn't go for it though as they don't want to lose Mbappe on a free.

I find it a bit amusing that most people on here are foaming at the mouth for Tapsoba and VDV. I guarantee you pretty much everyone hasn’t even seen the pair of them play 90 minutes before.

Desperation is often amusing - our starting CB partner for Romero in two friendlies have been Davies and Tanganga. Then there’s Dier and Sanchez. Dont know about you but any of those four playing central defender in a ball control - high line system - I find the thought terrifying. Dier lumbering back from the opposition half to defend a counter attack - TERRIFYING. I’ll roll the dice with VVD or Tapsoba sight unseen - heck what about you Pol, you have any experience playing as a central defender?
