Conte definitely needed another defender. However, not sure Ange needs Kane for us to score goals. Not to say he’s not an excellent player. That said, it’s never been more clear imo. Sign an extension or sell.

Dier is an intelligent, multi-lingual, guy. I'm sure Mourinho liked him as a person & a professional. He also was not goihg to trash him publicly a few weeks into his tenure at Spurs.
But the Dier who was considered an elite DM protector for Spurs & England no longer existed by the time Jose rocked up.
Just as he got "Dele's brother", rather than the player Ferguson wanted yanited to sign.
They are run by two very controlling chairman as well, hardly a surprise they wouldn't give more control to him.
It’s hardly new. If a big PL team tries to buy from within the league, the fee is always massive. Especially if it’s an English player. Players like Olise, Eze, etc would all command a similar fee.
We paid £40m this summer for an English player who just got relegated.

True. But Maddison is a demonstrably good player with years’ worth of performance to at least make the fee understandable, if not justifiable.

The club needs to do better than it currently is. Whatever their reasons may be it doesn't make sense to have not got atleast one CB in.
