Even if Saudi don’t buy our players, the money will filter through to teams who will likely want several, again if Levy is not asking 25-50% above market for our players, it should be the lowest gamble to sign one top target CB now, staggers the mind the way we do things.

Our owners act like small fry, where team structure being in place at seasons start has never mattered, and the logical outcome of that attitude is we never quite sign the best players and we never quite win.

The problem here is that the Saudi money is going into clubs that they have a financial interest in, for the most part.

The Saudis have approached us for Son, he rejected them. All we can really do is tell the player(s) they don't have a future, then it's up to their agents to tout them out. All Chelsea and Newcastle have to do is have a chat with their owners who'll arrange a sale to one of their other clubs, effectively paying themselves with their own money.

The market is loaded in favour of certain teams at the moment. Legal loopholes or not, it's corrupt.

Having said that, I don't think that, or anything else for that matter, provides sufficient excuse for us not having our primary CB target in by now.

And even the players who are a tier below that at CB, like Tapsoba or VdV, we have wasted valuable time in negotiations.

BTW, is Florentino Perez absolutely mental? Harry Kane for £100m would be a fantastic deal for his team. As close to a 1 to 1 replacement you could get for Benzema, possibly even better.

Meanwhile he's twerking for Mbappe who's not coming till next season anyway.
 
Not a fan of Kessie, but he does give you power in midfield and duel winning ability. We were so bad at winning 50-50s the last couple of years.

There’s still about 20 other players I’d go for 1st if we’re replacing Hojbjerg, though.

Mbappe is more than a footballer. He’s the Balon D’or, he’s the face of Fifa games, he’s dominating social media, all the things Real want to be doing to dominate football as the biggest club.

You said "nobody wants to sign for us".... Now; even conceding to a non-"literal" definition of "nobody"; you're shifting the goalposts to grumbling about being slow doing business which an entirely different complaint.

..............So, shall we start with "Elite" STs who we ought to expect to able to sign that have indicated that they don't want to come here?

If you prefer to preface with your working definition of "Elite" then by all means do that too..... I wouldn't want us to not be on the same page in terms of what's "literal" or not again.
