On top of the two other centre backs they've already signed, one of which was a left sided centre back from Switzerland..

Looks like they're stocking up well.

They've signed a left sided centre back and a left back. Two positions van de Ven is known to play.
Yeah, and there were reports of talks and a deal being close a month ago. We weirdly hit pause on that but it seems both sides are pretty sure a deal can be done.

If I had to bet, I’d say VdV will likely be signed, much to my chagrin, but I’ll back him regardless.

Exactly. Every season I hear that every single team will be strengthened and right up there there are always more than just one of the top ones struggling.
Newcastle squad looks like it’s a season early getting top 4 and they haven’t
Splashed the way everyone thought after Tonali came in .

Villa are better but also light on numbers for Europe.

Liverpool have let 2 DMs go that were the spine of Klopps entire system and brought in creative mids that mean the system must be changing. That could take a while.

United haven’t had a great window except maybe Onana.

It’s never easy to predict

Yup. There's a lot of unknown especially with teams juggling European comps that aren't used to.

Definitely going to be an interesting season.

First game of the season sees a back four of Emerson, Sanchez, Dier and Davis, due to injuries.

Spurs win by 7 whilst Sanchez & Dier spend 90 minutes leaning on the goalposts having a chinwag with Vicario.

We don't know the situation. Maybe Wolfsburg wanted to get their signings done before it being obvious they have further money besides Nmechas coming in?

I wonder if this is why the deal went so quiet, we've had to wait for them to get their replacement(s) in?

This is why Ange took the whole squad to Oz and Asia, he knew that the likelihood was that there would be no more transfers in and out before the start of the season so he will have to build a team from the players he already has. Levy probably tipped him off saying that Kane will go towards the very end of the window and then Ange will have the money to bring in who he wants.
Problem with your analysis is that JN had discussions with a number of top clubs but has not gone to any of them.

Which means JN was unrealistic with his demands ..... and chances of him coming to us was actually zero with 20/20 hindsight.

If he had been more realistic one club would have got to an agreement with him
May be on the JN offer but I think we all know why Ange was selected. It was levy being cheap and also able to control him more and toe the party line. Especially as Ange is probaby good mates with our non existent COF Munn.

Last thing we needed was another 'star manager' to follow 'star managers' Mourhino and Conte

We needed a 'project' coach - I'd have preferred one rather than Conte - who could actually coach the players and make the team greater than the sum of the individual players - should have taken Eddie Howe who was free for a year after leaving Bournemouth

You'll be delighted when we sign Lenglet then.

:nunothumb:
We want a centrebacks, at least 1. We have our targets, Tapsoba, Van de Ven, Ibáñez, Nelson ,Bremer and Tosin. We wait and wait and wait getting so ,so frustrated. Then at last minute we get the cheapest one going. Relief all round that it’s. It Lenglet and we won’t have to use Davies or Dier as first choice, well not after Tosin has settled in. Levy uses fans relief at this ,thinking it excuses him as he has got someone in AND spent as little as possible.

To sum it up both have rather glaring deficiencies that do not complement the side around them well. And more than anything, deficiencies such are these limits the upside of a prospect.

In Veiga, his lack of passing and reliance on pace, reactivity, luck and overperforming Goals/Assists reminds me so much of Paulinho/Dele… if they aren’t scoring they’re basically doing fuck all… and in a side with Son and Richarlison, we can’t afford two players like that in our attack.

In Van de Ven, his complete lack of aggression and shocking aerial ability doesn’t solve problems for us. Sure he can run over 30 yards but can he step into a tackle? Can he command a physical striker or take charge aerially us on set pieces? The videos I’ve posted show that he cannot. His aerial ability is so frighteningly bad.
How many times have you seen VDV or Veiga play?

No I don’t think he’s suited to it because I don’t think he wants to be a six yard box striker that is needed in our system. If he would sacrifice his game to just be in around the 6 yard box because you will see us score many many goals from cut backs in and around the 6 yard box to penalty spot area then fair enough. I’m pretty sure he wants to be involved in the build up more but we need that striker in there and making runs off the shoulder of defenders. Kane knows the game inside out but I don’t want him thinking he can do what he wants and still play. Fuck that, the club does not revolve around him now. He won’t sign an extension so he has to go now for the good of the club.
Kane is a magnificent player and the most natural goalscorer I’ve seen with both feet and his head but it has to end at some point. Now is the time for this to happen because if it doesn’t get resolved there will be the Harry Kane cloud hanging over this club till next summer which is detrimental to us moving forward.
It’s only my opinion but it’s time to move on
Agree, I’ve suggested this about Harry ever since Ange took over.
