Buying the internationally respected cb with experience is ambition. I.e. tapsoba.
I'd also accept that romero was a demonstration of ambition also.

Really not sure that £ 50m can be correct, £30m to £40m sounds a lot more likely given his experience.

I think we can forget about Tapsoba. We've been much closer to finalising the VdV deal, the player has even been to Hotspur Way and agreed personal terms. Tapsoba has never really gone far tbh
So fucked our transfer policy. Just imagine if we spent £40M on an actually rb or and RW player. Instead we have some who is prbly not suited to both albeit he could play wide right but would he as good as a proper wide forward. Goons bought thimber or whatever his name is. Let's imagine that Wolfsburg upped the price and we said no.
You'd be howling and shaking an angry fist. I'm not defending our overlords for a second or what passes as our transfer window strategy but you can't simultaneously whine that we're overpaying AND that we let deals escape us because we have no ambition.
What's opportunistic about it, he'd cost a fortune while being not vey good.
