Probably because we dont want to pay 40 for VDV and 60 for Tapsoba

We're not going to sign Schurrs over van de Ven because of price if it's a £5m difference.

Especially if we're about to sign an unknown Argentina striker for £13m.

I imagine we aren't after Schurrs at all and it's probably some agent talk or usual bollocks to try and get Palace to pay up because they know we need a centre back and might beat them to it.

So as I understand it from the consensus on here, £40 milion was way, way too much for Raya so we bought Vicario for less. Based on two halves of pre-season friendlies, we shouldn't have bought Vicario but rather forked out on Raya. Then we were in for Van der Ven. As we didn't conclude that deal in a day or so, we weren't showing any ambition. Now it looks like we're increasing our offer it suddenly becomes way, way too much.

We also got what looks like a promising winger on a free, more or less. This shows that we're cheapskates.

Then we went in for a young CB promise. Our bid to pay his buy out clause was rejected and it now seems that we'll get him for less. Again, we're cheapskates.

We never, ever plan for the future. And yet when we move swiftly for an exciting 19-year-old striker it's still shit because Rosario may get to keep him till January.

Is that about right?

Football Manager has a lot to answer for Bill.

Another Tottenham paradox.

Can't afford/won't pay up for the top top shelf.

Go for a younger less experience player with higher upside. But the player profile we're looking for is so specific that the selling team knows they still can bend us over at the negotiations table.

So "top shelf" players would turn down City, United, or Woolwich to come to a club with no European footie, and who are about to sell a World class striker?

Convince me a little more please.

why are people so concerned with what we're paying for VDV?

I couldn't give a toss. He appeared to be one of our main CB targets an we appear to be getting him rather then settle for lenglet type back up options.

Same reason people piss about and moan about Sanchez for 40m, I suspect.....

Clubs have budgets and aside from a select 4 or 5 clubs in the world; expensive duds can be harmful.

Pretty basic stuff.
