I'm sure Gent supporters were questioning taking a punt on a forward from the Norwegian second division. But the guy has dominated at every stop. He's not struggled to deal with new teammates, new languages or new cultures. He's got the profile of someone who can take another big step up.

Is this what your dad did when you were born .

There are some good clubs in Argentina, but context is important.

The Argentine league has 28 teams with a lot of garbage at the bottom playing a single round-robin, the Belgian has only 18 in which Genk was in a season-ending playoff series against the better teams. Genk was also in the Europa League last year and Orban has a hattrick in the Conference League this year, whereas Veliz' Rosario Central hasn't been in the continental competitions while Veliz has been there.

All in all the teams Orban has played against are much stronger than those Veliz played against.

Veliz did score a brace in a 3-3 draw against River Plate on July 24th, that's pretty good. That might be available for replay on Paramount Plus maybe I could fire that up...:ange-hmm:

That's another thing with Veliz though, he arrives here having just finished a full season at a pretty tender age. Giving him some time and a "pre-season" would do him some good, whereas Orban is ready to rock.

Well and to be clear it's only two stops.

He made his first senior professional start in July of last year. He was apparently a complete unknown 19 year old amateur in Togo like two years ago. By comparison Adebayor was signed away from Togo to a European academy at 15 and made his international debut for Togo at 16.

19 goals in 24 appearances in the Norwegian 2nd Division, transferred to Gent (a bigger jump than Belgium to England honestly), and 25 in 25 there.

It's a crazy story. And he looks like a mini-Haaland doing it, just running through people and battering the ball into the net.

Why fire him when you can sell him for 10 or 20m?
And why publicly trash him if you're trying to off-load him?
