Since the squad is bloated, we could try to sell the deadwood and bring in 1-2 quality replacements. If we get rid of everyone we wont use and bring in 1-2 players, we would most likely save some on wages too.

In either case, Levy keeping deadwood around on purpose so he doesnt have to spend makes zero sense to me.

If Tanguy is off the books, it opens a space in the squad.

The pressure would be on Levy to really spend and get a good player.

We just sold Harry Kane. The fans want to see his ambition.

If he can hide behind the need for players to leave first, he's under less pressure to show that ambition until the space in the squad opens up.

Then, based on previous years, miraculously the deadline passes and his failed transfers are still here and no new players have come in.

We still have about 34 first team players atm - so getting rid of one is just a start.

And given Ndombele has not been part of a named Spurs squad for about 2 years, getting rid of him does not free up a squad place

I'm honestly just laser focused on fumigating the place of all the losers and guys not fit to play modern football. I want the club to be looking forward, we can worry about spending for quality in the future.

Lloris, Dier, Ndombele, Hojbjerg. Out out out!

I think it’s a bit the other way round actually, nothing wrong with Sanches’ application, just not talented enough for teams like Bayern or PSG. I doubt he’d have got near those clubs if Mendes wasn’t his mofo.
 
WTF is the point in "paying players off"

Do none of you have a clue how that works?
I'll put it in the simplest of terms.
Let's use Ndombelly.
Give him £20m and don't have a player.
Give him £20m over the remainder of his contract and loan him out. Have a player. A player who may attract a small offer to sign him and take those wages off your hands. You could even just pay his salary until his contract runs out on the usual terms (monthly likely) and tell him he's not in our plans. He could either take that as a challenge to get off his arse, or find a new club.

The point is, it makes absolutely no sense to give a player money to go away. Not least because they could subsequently sign for another club the next day and double their income.

Big clubs, all of them, simply leave the players they don't want out of their squad. They're still on the payroll, but they're nowhere near the first team. Shy of massive breach of contract issues, what clubs have effectively terminated a contract?

That's fine but don't stop rebuilding the squad because you still have that player on your books.

None of us really care what happens with these players as long as the club really goes hard at building this squad.

Along with Frenkie de Jong, he was THE top young midfielder in Europe that summer. There genuinely was a host of top clubs after him, including Juve and Real Madrid.

There were murmurings of a poor attitude from very early on in his career but everyone seemed to believe they were a thing of the past, including our scouts and Pochettino.
Even from very early on in pre season though you could see there we something very off. He didn’t look as strong or sharp as he did at Lyon, and he was literally blowing out of his arse after one or two sprints.

In hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have made him the joint highest player along with Kane in order to get him to sign, as it clearly made his head swell enormously.

However, I will never criticize the club for signing Ndombele. He was at the time a player in demand from the best clubs in the world and we finally acted like the big club we are, went out, put our balls on the table and got him in early doors.
The issue is, the fact that he didn’t work out seems to have burnt Levy and ENIC to the point that they are no longer willing to even consider going after a player at that level of the market again, which is ultimately going to prevent us from competing at the top end of the table.

The very reason why Spurs got him was exactly his reputation for being lazy. The big clubs stayed away - knowing they could get him later if he's indeed had changed. He didn't. So I would blame Spurs' scouting system for not doing a good enough job on him.
Leon Bailey and Renato Sanches are two other examples of some very talented player who Real Madrid were after but their attitude problems have failed them.

I think he was playing for a club in Togo and has a Togolese mother but lived in Nigeria. Come to think of it that’s basically Adebayor but backwards (he was Nigerian but lived in Togo)

Togo and Nigeria are very close anyways, not bordering due to Benin in the middle but only a couple hundred kms apart.

Togolese mother, Nigerian father. Born in Nigeria, reportedly grew up in Togo and is a French speaker.

Was spotted by and joined up with a Nigerian club in 2021, and got a trial with a second tier Norwegian side shortly thereafter.

West Africa is crawling with European scouts. It's a real mystery how this obvious talent slipped through the net.

If you think the club would go out and spend millions on a player to be 5th choice, you are a fucking moron.

EDIT: If you think keeping Eric Dier for his last year is more expensive than spending money on Tapsoba or Schuurs or whoever, over a 5 years contract, you are also a fucking moron.
