One deadline day signing that ended up decent and 20 odd years of leaving it until deadline day and not getting important bits of business done.

My mistake; I thought:

A) We'd already made numerous "important" signings and six overall so far this window.
B) That you were primarily concerned about outgoings.... About which there was a flurry of noise yesterday.
C) That deadline day was actually 2 weeks away.
D) All clubs were allowed to use the whole window.
E) Levy-deadline day theory was statistically proven to be bollocks anyway.

Genuine concern.... But do you dream about this stufff at night? You seem to wake up with all this imaginary Levy-torture on your mind that you need to spill (every morning a new theory) and it's not usually til some-time after lunch that you get back to being the good poster that you otherwise are.

If you think of the strikers we've had, Keane, Defoe, Berbatov, Kane, and now we're relying on Richarlison. He's a level below, I don't even think he's a better CF than Son.

The one thing that stands out for all mentioned and of course for Kane and for Son, up until the last few months, is their calmness in front of goal.

Add Sheringham into that mix and you just have to hear what Tuchel has already said of our ex-striker in terms of his calmness and how he thinks he will cope with the pressure of the move and the expectation..

Richarlison may put in oodles of effort but that doesn't score goals and the only way he creates for others will be making space through his movement. He can't find a player.

I am not blaming Richarlison and as long as he puts in said effort, fine, as far as that takes him but we will need goals. It must be addtessed, even if we accept quality strikers are a rare commodity at present..

It's a worry.

Not sure what it will really achieve though. I doubt our situation at RB will have changed massively next summer, meaning we'll still have Porro and Royal.

Unless of course we'll have a manager that plays with wing backs by then

Its more though to safeguard us, lets say he absolutely smashes it at Palace then next Summer a bigger club comes in for him, i'd rather have a buy back clause or just Loan him out so he is still our player.

Also dithering over getting money in for players out. Which is the excuse for dithering over 30m for Orban despite selling the club's best player for 120m.

The issue is players do not want to move as they are very well paid and living in London - a great place especially for players wives.

If the outgoing players were being sold to a club offering them higher wages, then players might be incentivised to move - but that's not the situation as admirably highlighted a few pages back. Few clubs want to buy our discards - Hojbjerg may be one of he few sales.

Most of players will be going to clubs where Spurs end up paying a good part of the player wages - Ndombele to Rennes might well be something like 2/3rds paid by Spurs only 1/3 by Rennes.

So if we get 20m for Hojbjerg we might well find the wages we need to pay in the upcoming season are bigger than the Hojbjerg fee we receive - so still costing us money over and above..

So fuck all to do with dithering about getting fees for players and 100% to do with trying to stop money pouring out in wages for unwanted players who nobody wants to buy.

Loaned to Rennes as their RB and captain out injured, initially thought to be a long time.

Spence played about 10 games in that half season until captain came back from injury unexpectedly early - but that 10 games included several games where Spence played very well including beating PSV 2-0 in Paris with Spence marking Mbappe who didn't get a sniff and neither did Messi. So Rennes coach was certainly not disappointed in him as you suggest

Problem at Spurs very simply has been Conte - just hates youngsters only wants to play established players, and so played Royal a defensive full back totally unsuited for the attacking RB role he was played in so managing to screw up both Royal and Spence confidence whilst demanding club buy Porro. Porro was vastly over priced but club did buy him (imo a mistake) - great at attacking but liability in defence as we've all seen.

So the problem since then very simply is there are 3 RB's - Royal who has improved, particularly since Conte left, in being 'ok' in attack but still good defensively, Porro who is excellent in attack and still a liability in defence and Spence who lacks experience and atm isn't better than either Royal or Porro in attack or defence, but might with coaching be a very good RB in both attack and defence.

We also have a bloated squad - so its probably no benefit to squad to try to move Porro to RW.(particularly as we are also moving Perisic to being a forward as he is is equally useless in defence as Porro), to give Spence the opportunity to develop as a RB.

So its obvious given Spurs bloated squad that we need to loan out or sell Spence this window as squad is too big. But if he goes to a lower PL club, he will very possibly flourish if he gets his head down and isn't feeling burned by his spurs experience.
If Spence really had played well he could and would have kept his starting spot, though. Despite of being their captain, Hamari Traoré isn't exactly a top class RB (he's now sold to Real Sociedad).
And despite of having some good games he also had some poor games defensively and were at fault for several goals against and was even subbed on a few occasions. And in the end he hardly featured at all.
Yes, it did not help having Conte as his head-coash, but neither Mason nor Agne seem to rate him either.
If he's got the right attitude he shouldn't feel burned out after just 1 season without getting his break.
I personally think he's a bit hyped because of his attacking flair but I hope I am wrong, as I really hope he'll succeed at Spurs as HG RB.

People think we can finally move on from Kane :roflmao:

We will be linked with bringing him back for years now.
I'd bet money that as soon as the January window opens there'll be a headline along the lines of "Having failed to make an impression at Bayern, Kane eyes a SENSATIONAL RETURN to #THFC"

And the evidence (if any) will be that his social media team liked a fucking Spurs related tweet or something, and in spite of the fact that he'll have like, 15 goals and 5 assists at that point.

You miss the key point - with 3 RB's in the squad, and a bloated squad, any Spurs coach has a problem.

And with 2 experienced RB's its highly unlikely they will choose to play the inexperienced player.

Tuchel will get sacked and that'll be the trigger for Kane coming back

A sell-on clause would probably be the best bet.....

- CP invest fully in his game-time on the basis of him being their player (rather than a loanee).
- We either opt for the additional pay-out if we decide to stick with Porro instead.
- Or if we decide to bring him back; the 'sell-on' clause acts and a reduced price buy-back by proxy anyway.

Not a hipster, but a Dane though so I'll give it a go, although I'm not sure what can be added about the player. What you see in the YT clips holds true imo, in terms of body strength, pace, and dribling for full matches outside highlight packages. Much like with Orban the 30m question is whether it translates from a mid-rank league to the PL, if not else whether his developement will take him there.

More interesting might be the club. They have for many years been a club with relentless focus on a front foot approach based around quick passing and lots of technically gifted players. And haven't been afraid to throw youngsters in at the deep end, and allow them to develop through game time at the highest, by Danish standards, level. Other attacking players coming through the club in recent years off the top of my head are Kudus now at Ajax and linked to Brighton/WH; Adingra who scored on his PL debut for Brighton at the weekend; Damsgaard and Mathias Jensen at Brentford.

If we are in for him, I mainly hope Levy will stop being Levy for a minute. With Ange ball we could do worse than having a working relationship with this club, rather than being written off as the club with a cunt who you cannot make a fair deal with as chairman.
Great post.
Now I know why I wade through all the Levy BS in this thread for nuggets like this.
