My rhetoric is watertight as per.

You are gold; you really are... I don't think I've ever seen you win an argument on here.

You literally just highlighted that Japh wasn't an issue; moments after getting down my neck insisting that Dier was and that he'd already cost us the chance to sign another CB.

"Watertight"...... Wouldn't wanna go sailing with you, bruv. 😄

I see we're back on the weekly repeat of paying players to leave.

It didn't make sense last week.
It doesn't make sense this week.
It won't make sense next week.

All we have to do is tell them there's only 25 spots in the squad and 20 in the match day squad. They may not make the cut and, as such, won't get any football before January at least.

If we pay them to leave, they could end up earning double wages and for our PL rivals.
If we hold them to their contract, we're no worse off financially than the other option, but we have "desperate time desperate measures" fallback option in an injury crisis, or another chance to sell in January.

The only way out is give them a free transfer, which is different as our obligations to pay them cease.

I don't really care if Dier is paid off or contracted. As long as he doesn't play.

Do own goals or goals from defenders not count?

I can assure you the front 3 is not going to score 0 goals all season.
I'm not even looking at the goals. I'm looking at the xG, which is averaging at 2.0. To put this in perspective, since 2014 only City and Liverpool have managed to achieve a higher average in a season (City 5 times and Liverpool twice). I know it's only 2 games, but it's been against good defensive sides and Angeball hasn't even clicked yet.

We'll score goals, of that I am sure. What I'm not sure about is if we will be halfway decent at not letting many in.

Of course it is, when it’s merited.
Like yesterday. Like when the Arse bottle the league. Like in the near-impossible scenario where City get docked 20 points and banned from Europe for cheating or Newcastle go back to being the joke they used to be.

I too recall the June synopsis, but there's been further water under the bridge since then and it seems it's been communicated (in various forms) that there's no "place" for him to "fight" for.

It now seems to be more of a case of "it doesn't matter what you say or do; I'm staying".

Which of course is his right; but it's still a bit lame.
I agree with you on the obvious path forward though
IF we intend to cut Dier if he doesn’t go then there should be no delay in getting in his replacement. In fact, that would only put more pressure on him to leave.

This time I will not tell you that you are foolish. Just that you are knee-jerk and a bit too emotional. Your prerogative. But it will do you a world of good to relax and let things play out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Ah I'm "knee-jerk "and "emotional" now.

So, essentially you have your view which you see as measured and rational and because you don't like mine it has to be described with some kind of negative connotation. Snidey, passive-aggressive words

I think you are going on ignore and can enjoy your own opinions for yourself, mate.
