I do find it hilarious that we’re poking holes left and right in Johnson while Orban, who is rumoured to cost only £15-20m less, is viewed as this amazing can’t miss prospect, despite them being the same age.

We watched what he did to the Championship, what would he be doing to the fucking Belgian League?

In all fairness, those 3 players - Oakley-Boothe, T. J. Eyoma and Kirby - simple weren't good enough; which is why they never got games for Spurs. They are all playing in the lower divisions now.
8 of the squad players are now still with an EPL club.

Poch refused to allow youngsters to go out on loan and nor did they get playing time - he refused to allow them to play u21 games when training with the first team.

That is the most ridiculous way to train a footballer - the classic example being Foyth bought for £10m, not allowed to play football for 2 years only train ....... so no surprise he gave away 2 penalties on his first team debut and only made about 14 appearances before being sold ...... and since then he's become an Argentine international and regular club footballer.

That is why post Kane (who had already had loans and scored 3 PL goals in 6 starts before Poch arrival), there were no players coming through the academy except Winks.

He is a disaster at bringing players through from the academy - he can only develop players when they have already had some first team experience.

Of the 3 E u17 players two of them were almost perpetually picking up minor injuries in Poch's notoriously hard training sessions,

One thing I don't think is sensible is for the Head Coach to appoint as Head Physio a son with no practical experience after his qualification, as youngsters bodies are still not mature and may not be suitable for notoriously hard work outs.

So overall a score of D- for his abilities to bring youngsters through from the academy - but of course a good coach for First Team.

Mourhino was better in allowing youngsters to go out on loans and gave debuts to several players when we drew a non league club in the FA Cup but was only at Spurs for a little over a season so had little permaneny effect on the youngsters

Conte of course had zero interest in youngsters - literally disturbed u21 training sessions to borrow u21 players to act as 'cones' for his training sessions.

And that in summary is why Spurs have brought no players through ...... which is why we now are starting to have HG issues at first team level. Its shear bad squad/player management

Brennan Johnson would be essentially a perfectly decent HG rotation option. For £50m you must be getting starting quality you simply must be.

If his name was Brennão Jonso from Fluminese how much buzz would he be getting solely off his performances?
And tbh, I may be in the minority but he is another I don’t think is that good.

Rapid, yes but decision making and final ball in the attacking third imo leave a lot to be desired.

I don’t think the advanced analytics are all that great.
The thing that is certainly true is that analytics can give you more basic information about more players than an army of scouts ever could. It's definitely a critical tool to even know where to begin to look for a player and to signal potential emerging opportunities that you can invest human resources into.

As for really nitty gritty making of decisions....yeah....football seems extremely different than baseball.

There are definitely certain kinds of bad decisions that can be avoided with a focus on data. But great human scouting will always have a significant role to play.

The football universe is so much vaster than any other sport though, just answering the "what's happening out there?" question seems like a major asset analytics brings to a football recruitment department.

Now we're fucking cooking.

40m + Spence or 30m + Spence + Tanganga for Eze. Totally plausible.

"Can't miss"

Yeh, not sure I've seen anyone claim that......

No; wait.... I sure as fuck haven't!

Can't believe someone hasn't pointed it out yet but we lose Bissouma and Sarr to AFCON this season!

Not sure how many games they'll miss but I bet it's a few!

The answer is up to 5 PL games and 3 domestic cup matches may be missed by the players , as it coincides with the PL winter break so reduces the effect.

The unknown is whether there are after effects - many players came back from World Cup and played poorly in 2nd half of season last season - will AFCON give the same effect. And the other big risk is national team coaches playing players when they shouldn't be - for example in world cup Richarlison injured in a warm up but still played 80 mins for Brazil before arriving back injured at Spurs.

I'm not sure that was entirely on the coaches with our South American players in the WC.

Romero took the absolute piss out of us with his malingering that cleared up suddenly by match 1.
