No issue - just saying we have a solid foundation to invest — I would also argue that as we’ve bought well recently, again we are well placed to overpay for the right player

Yeah exactly my thinking.

I think we are willing to invest for the right player but considering how hard it is to shift the wrong players we bought I can understand wanting to get the next big purchase right

I don't think that we'll be signing a forward this window

It seems that we'll be assessing Veliz and Scarlett properly first.

A CB is a more pressing issue for me.

Sometimes overpaying for the right one makes sense is less risky…… agree re: shifting and we are suffering the hangover of that at the moment.

Ange said Veliz will take a long adjustment period, and there's nothing really to assess about Scarlett, he needs to go on loan, he doesn't even get on the bench when we have no backup strikers.

Thing is, if Richy and Son are the strikers, that leaves us a winger short.

One way or another they should be bringing in a forward.

If they hadn’t dithered about they might have got Doku before City realised Paqueta is mates with Toney.

I may be speaking only for myself, but what the fans want is for Ange to be given the time and authority to stamp his ideas on the club, as opposed to the immediate quality to compete for major honors this season. Like no one wants us to go bring in some 30-something superstar loanee to fill a hole, there would be no purpose served by that. It was a different story under Jose and Conte, everything had to be fixed and final RIGHT NOW.
This. Which is why people need to relax. We're not going to get all the pieces in this window to compete for top whatever. What's more important is to bed in the playing style and philosophy. Getting all the pieces in will follow.

Agree with that, and if i think about some of the risky big attacking signings in recent years for teams in and around us, there is probably a lot more misses than hits.

Anthony to United
Darwin Nunez to Liverpool
Enzo to Chelsea
Kai Havertz to Chelsea
Lukaku to Chelsea
Sancho to United
Pepe to Woolwich
Mudryk to Chelsea

The only good ones I feel are

Isak to Newcastle
Grealish to CIty

Agree but there has to be authority in the dressing room. Senior players in line with the manger. Now Harry has gone, there is a vacuum.

Will be interesting to see who fills the gap considering the massive ego of professional footballers.

If it was a cock fight (see what I did there) it's Biss or Roddy. I know Dier wants it but c'mon.
There's a good article by Ally Gold in football.london that talks exactly about that. It's Sonny who is stepping in as the captain. Can't find the link.
