Bickering about the amount of "powder" left is essentially the same thing......... Bickering about how "hard" we can go is essentially bickering about the same thing...... How much is left in the pot right now...?

You can't answer that question any better than I can....... When I asked the question in June; barely anyone dared answer "how much is a fair budget for this summer?".

Let's simplify the matter even further (cos every one of us is fighting a losing battle trying to second-guess what our player budgets are from year to year and how they mesh with the actual cash flow/payments/amortisation etc).......

Accepted: We still have boxes to tick..... Every one of us will anticipate those boxes being ticked in the next window.... In turn new 'boxes' are likely to arise in the meantime and the never ending cycle will continue.

We can all - from our under-informed positions - bicker about unquantified degrees of ambition; but the argument will never be resolved even if we win the league (Liverpool & Leicester forums will be testament to that fact).

I just watched a 20+minute video of Lee Gunner melting about the Scum's squad being full of holes (purely for comedy value!); but from the outside one would think their window was about 'the final peices of the puzzle', but according to him (and he's not the only one) they have more problems than they did in June.
What’s your point?

We won 5-2 yesterday away from home yesterday and people are still sat in front of spreadsheets arguing about net spend. Try enjoying the actual football? It’s been alright this season

Initially, that you're essentially proposing arguing about the same old crap; just under a new name.........

I mean fair enough if you don't agree, but try quantifying how much money we should have 'left' to spend in Jan without dredging up the exact same things about income v net spend.

Talk of Sanchez going to Turkey for £17m and Dier back in the match day squad. If Levy does that just to get the money now and leave Ange with a totally unsuitable centreback as back up then he should be thoroughly ashamed of himself.

Off topic I know..... But the Glaziers are apparently taking United off the market coz they can't get price they want. Sheik Jassim had already said if he couldn't get United, Tottenham would be next.... What do we think? Good or bad for the club?

Spending “big” is a silly metric of ambition and success. “ The Todd “ has spent a billion on “potential” and doesn’t look any the better for it. Brighton have spent pennies and have in if the best teams in the league.
Spending right is far more important.

Are you saying you don’t expect the club to have a very decent budget in January to address CB and possibly CM if that’s where the opportunity is?

Must not be overlooked, we had £50m still to draw down of the £150m injection.

Meaning a (more accurate) Net Spend of £53m in a season we sell our best player.

Don’t get hoodwinked by the headline figures, it is soooooooo Levy to do this (Under invest).

Whether that includes £50m put in by the owners or not its still a net spend of over £100m+ on these figures

He said during the window he wanted another CB in. He won't be happy with the failure on that front, and it could cost us the season. PL is brutally competitive and having Sanchez or Dier playing an extended spell of matches could be fatal.

The last player signed was Johnson costing £50m so its quite clear that whilst he would have liked an extra CB (and I'd like to be a billionaire) he was very happy with an extra attacking player - and Angeball is all about attacking play.

So yes, ideal world an extra CB, but real world is if nobody great is available as a CB, and a veery good attacker is, its no surprise we get an extra attacker in.

The logic quite simply is playing one game a week (except December) we'd need to be unlucky to lose a CB through injury before January transfer window.

Ange comes over as a positive guy so getting 3 first team starters in positions needed to be filled (GK Vicario, LCB Van de Ven, creative Maddison) plus squad (Solomon - with 2 assists on debut) plus Udogie back from loan as First team LB plus Johnson as an option to replace Kulusevski or Richarlison in the First team means he's got most of what he wanted.

Is Davinson going then?

Thought it would be useful to show where we are with the current rebuild by showing when the players in yesterday's match squad were bought :

Vicario (2023)
Porro (2022)
Romero (2021)
Van de Van (2023)
Udogie (2022 - loaned until debut 2023)
Sarr (2021 - loaned until 2022)
Bissouma (2022)
Maddison (2023)
Kulusevski (loaned 2021, bought 2023)
Son ( Years ago)
Solomon (2023)

Subs :
Skipp (Academy - 2022)
Hojbjerg (2020)
Sanchez (Years ago)
Richarlison (2022)
Royal (2021)
Perisic (2022)
Forster (2022)
Davies (Years ago)
Phillips (2023)

Notable players not included - Bentancur (2021), Johnson (2023).

So with the exception of Son, Sanchez and Davies, all of yesterday's matchday squad came into the first team squad either in 2023 or 2 previous seasons - that shows the 'rebuild' is well under way and proceeding at pace..

For those interested the a number of players contracts expire in June 2024 which will aid the next part of the rebuild - Lloris, Sanchez, Perisic, Dier Forster.

We only spent 100mil of the 150mil. The 150mil had an expiry date I think that has long passed.

So the 50mil isn’t even a factor now.
