Can’t help but think of that first season he came in at age 21, started 29 matches and looked so comfortable and excellent next to Toby and Jan. Very similar to what VDV is doing now. Hard to understand why he never kicked on.
Because he’s not good technically.

I don’t think he really get worse but he was not meant for the Mourinho and conte style. I think he would have been fine as a backup this season.

Poch bought him but stopped playing him regularly after the first season.

He has always been a CB that liked to be aggressive in coming forward, so he's not changed. Could he learn a new way to play - possibly if coached but why by a CB who has to be radically changed : Agree he's totally unsuited to a counter attacking sit back system such as Jose and Conte play

I am not sure you understand.
...
The money follows his decision, not the other way round.

I'm in agreement. Other people seem to think that it's the club with their lofty financial demands that are holding him back from a move. I contend that Hugo is looking for a place where he can be a starter in a meaningful club, and I don't think he's going to get that. The money is a minor aspect in this whole thing.

Its madness that Ndombele (£60m fee ?) and Sanchez (£ 47m fee ?) plus wages over their contracts its cost us £150m+ yet neither have excelled for Spurs - Ndombele maybe lazy and Sanchez mis managed.

And some fans say 'where has the money gone' ?

I will miss Dav - was a good player for us when he first joined and shown professionalism throughout despite some turbulent years. Ultimately the right decision to let him go, not settled or comfortable enough on the ball to work in the system

They were 4 and 6 years ago. Besides the summer we bought Sanchez we sold Walker for £50m. The main mistake in all this was over promoting that utter walloper Steve Hitchen, pretty much all of these duds were on his watch.

Hitchen and Poch

Poch refused to accept a DoF, hence Hitchen as Chief Scout.

Poch was very proudly telling everyone he wanted |Sanchez after watching him in an Ajax v ManU EL final, so Poch certainly had his fingers involved, and likewise Ndombele/Lo Celso signings

No they don't.
A few obsessives have become fixated with him. The fans in the stadium never give him a problem.
The big anti Enic protest did not happen because only a few dozen share their hysterical views.
Dav is a "good bloke" and a "total pro" and so is Eric.
And Eric is a better player.
No he's not. Certainly not in the style of football we're trying to play - in fact, Sanchez was far better suited to that (as demonstrated by his substitution on for Romero against Brentford).

'A few obsessives' is massively underplaying the mood for Dier to have been sold this summer. I'm not equating that to whether or not fans actually abuse him at games.
