How Dry should our Powder be?

I think the HG and Non-HG, Europa club-trained issues have something to do with it. Would not be surprised to see us bring a young GK in before the deadline. POK mentioned an Italian kid at Fiorentina.

Doesn't really make sense signing a promising young goalkeeper to be back up when we have Luca Gunter in our youth.

If we want a back up, we are best off finding a Michel Vorm type. Happy enough to deputise but also someone who could quite easily be number one elsewhere for when we need to get rid and Gunter is ready.

I'd say our net spend is pretty consistent with our last few summer windows tbh, we clearly have a base level of investment that Levy is guaranteed to provide each season regardless of European revenue streams, which seems to be around the £100m net spend mark. Where that was dwarfed by the big spenders of yesteryear it still sees us miles clear on net spend right now over the likes of Woolwich, City and Liverpool and comfortably above Villa, Newcastle and United. We would be higher, but Brighton are spending the nest egg they've spent the last 3 years selling key players to build and Ipswich are clearly spending in an effort to stay up in the vein of Forest 2 seasons ago. I suspect we will get 1 more in, it's the Levy trademark to sign a player from absolutely fucking nowhere in the last few days, then we're likely in the top 4 for net spend this summer which I'd say is a very reasonable level of investment, especially when considering the clubs mentioned who are all currently beneath us on net spend.

I still can't see what we have got for our supposed £110m net spend this summer. Mostly players for the future. I'm also not sure we're finished selling, but I could see us not really adding anyone.

Iraola isn't the one leading their recruitment though, like Ange he probably gets final say but they are both there to make the most of the recruitment, not lead it.

I didn't day he was. But they're playing good football, getting results, and now players from the upper echelons of football are going there.
He's had a very positive impact on them.

Of course Woolwich/City/Liverpool are below us on net spend - then finished 25 points ahead ffs! They have way less work to do.

This summer we've been outspent by Brighton, Ipswich and Chelsea and we're on par with United and West Ham.

Given our revenues we should be doing more to close the gap on the teams above.
You could make that exact argument but much stronger for United who were 8th and even further off pace than us last season with constant higher base expectations than Spurs yet we have comparable net spend. Again if we had made what Brighton have on incoming the past 3 seasons our gross spend would dwarf theirs even more over the same period, not to mention they were well off their previous pace last season whereas we clearly improved, quantifiable by a 3 position improvement over the previous season.
Spending money for moneys sake gets you nowhere, see United since Fergie retired or Chelsea since Boehly arrived for perfect examples of that.

Problem is an over 21 player may not even be able to be registered in the PL squad even. Given we haven't produced a HG goalkeeper for almost 30 years, the club will want to hedge their bets on Gunter making the grade.

I would tend to agree that our first XI hasn't improved a great deal, I do think Solanke will provide more for our overall play than Richy and can see Odobert being a fixture in the first team within a couple of months as he offers something none of our other players do, however it's undeniable our bench has gotten far stronger. Gray is already looking a better proposition than Skipp and it's hard to see how Bergvall won't improve our options in the 8 position over Hojbjerg who was a real albatross in this system. Richy might not be all that popular here but its hard to deny he's probably the best backup striker we've had in the premier league era at the very least. A big factor of our collapse last season was general lack of replacement options and first XI fatigue, hoping the reinforcement of the bench gives us some modicum of staying power later in the season. Not to mention bringing these guys in so young allows them to grow within our system and adapt to each other early doors for when they finally do break into the first team.

I'm excited personally, can see why others wanted more ready-made first teamers but IMO those transfers are just as likely to go tits up with the proviso they're much harder to part with after the fact. We are clearly building for 2 or 3 years down the line, if we do it right that will really pay dividends, employing a "win now" strategy was not compatible for success with ENIC level spending as clearly evidenced by Conte and Mourinho. Just as well try a new approach.

I'm not saying Gray and Bergvall or a downgrade. All I'm saying is they're so young and inexperienced, we just can't claim they're an upgrade. No matter how much Skipp and Hoijberg weren't popular, they were both far more experienced.
Only time can tell on that one.
I also still have a sneaky feeling that once the penny drops that he isn't a starter, Richarlison will follow the money to Saudi.

Chelsea make move to sign Toney from Brentford

Latest from Sky Sports News' chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol:
Chelsea have made a move to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.
The Blues want a proven goalscorer to be their new number nine.
The 28-year-old will fit into their wage structure and the transfer fee will be reasonable.
The England international has an incredible offer from Saudi but Chelsea can offer Premier League football.

"Hey man how would you like to leave Barcelona playing in the CL to come sit on the bench at Tottenham to play EL football"

not today no GIF by Shalita Grant
Been reading were after another centre back before window shuts.

Weve made our squad stronger and ditched the deadwood. Imo i think we are stronger and have players who can slot in seamlessly. Only concern I have is if vdv gets injured. Thats why we need another centre-back so romero and vdv can be rested for easy EL games.

So we'd rather waste money and hedge our bets on some random Italian goalkeeper making it instead? 😂

Vicario has another 10+ years here if we're happy. What we need for the next few years is an experienced goalkeeper who's capable of stepping in but happy to sit on the bench. Like Vorm was and how Ortega is at City whilst Gunter develops and is ready to take that spot (after a few loans)

We could do alot worse than just bringing in a free agent like Keylor Navas tbh. But yeah, the foreign spot is annoying.

They did try for Gordon earlier in the window. Newcastle told them to fuck off.

They probably told them a price in the 90's to 100m. I don't think Gordon is worth that either tbh.

Mbeumo screams Liverpool to me. Surprised the lack of links.
Yeah him too. Semenyo, Mbuemo both Edwards type IMO. Probably both north of 60m now though.

It looks a bit like FSG are slightly burned from signing Nunez and Gakpo for a huge fee and a relatively large fee. Maybe they aren't ready to go big again yet.

There's no possible way you can claim that until we have seen at least 1-2 seasons of them.
They're children. They're not proven at all at the top because neither have played any football there.

I'm not saying they're not better. I'm saying nobody knows.
