Perhaps it's a deal where normally we'd loan straight back for development purposes? - are we close to our maximum loan quota? Could explain it

Because we've said fine we'll accept your ridiculously low price but we want to sweeten the deal by having an option on Johnny at €30m (which we will pay you for).
So Betis get to sign Gio for pennies, plus receive an option fee and keep Johnny another season and are only potentially obliged to sell him at a price they are happy with next summer.
