I'm convinced that fans want Eze because he costs a lot and it looks like we are showing ambition as opposed to him being the right profile fit because where does he play in an Ange team and why do we need him so bad?

Fans want him because he’s really fucking good.

If Ange wants him why should we care where he fits? People over think the position and starting 11 thing.

He can play 8/10/LW probably even false 9. A good coach will find a way to fit his best players into a team. And you want to win things you need more than 11 top class players.

‘Cost’ is nothing to do with it. He’s a unique player who’s skilful, strong, can carry the ball, shoot from both close and long range and very good at set pieces. ‘If’ we were to sign him then he goes straight into the team ahead of Maddison. The latter has his place but he’s very easily dispossessed and lacks physical presence. His form post injury was also horrific.

Why are you tempted by him if you’ve never seen him play?

Which player is worth more than 40m for you?
He’s had two good seasons and he’s 23.

But I have very low confidence in my ability to judge any forward we might be linked with.

A player worth more than 40m should have performed well for more than one season or be young and showing signs of rapid development. Otherwise let’s stick with what we’ve got and big elsewhere and wait a year. Give Parrot or Veliz some minutes as understudy to Richarlison. That’s good enough for top 4 and the cups if we make improvements elsewhere.

It’s a fair point.

Gyokeres is a very different player though. Bigger, stronger, more aggressive. I think he’s a better fit for English football, especially as he knows what it’s like to live here.

But nobody can pretend there isn’t risk with Gyokeres, Gimenez, Toney, Guirassy or any of the links so far.

Isak is the closest to a low risk signing but that’s why he’d be the most expensive by miles
The more I see of Gyokeres the more I tend to agree. He definitely looks a step above the types of strikers we’ve tried to get lucky with in the past (Vicario/Janssen etc).

Even with Isak, I’m guessing he’d cost around £100m and for that sort of money you could argue that he still isn’t going to guarantee you 20+ goals a season. Which further fuels the likelihood that we’ll be looking at the cheaper/higher risk option.

Do we know that Ange wants him though, I haven't seen any reports suggesting that?

He played an a inside forward at Palace, like an inside 10 and roamed inside and had his LWB overlap - that's vastly different to playing as a touchline winger where his fullback undelaps - not saying he couldn't do it (no-one actually knows) but spending £60m on him just because he's really fucking good as opposed to an actual profile fit we desperately needs suggests a misuse of funds.

Maybe he can fight it out with Maddison as an 8/10 or something, I think thought that that sort of cash should be going on a specialist winger.

Yes and I'd go for both

Struggling to think what Eze actually solves that we don't already have.

He can go past players but so can Maddison and Biss, he's not an elite passer of the ball either.

Unless we stick him out on the wing which is where we need a clear upgrade but it seems like that's underselling his ability and a position he doesn't really play unless we have a plan for him...just seems a bit too convenient for the club just because he's home grown and fans like it because it's a big money transfer.

Was so close to the agree button until you said “That’s good enough for Top 4”.

Our target is to win the premier league. This club can afford to challenge if it wants to. Fans need to stop conceding to this fake glass ceiling above our heads.

Why are we spending those kind off funds on a player who will replace Maddison who is better in that position than him, doesn't make sense?

Unless you've given up on Maddison already which is crazy.

We need a reliable playmaker to take pressure off maddison.

Like when we just had eriksen, we don't look the same when our one playmaker is injured or out of form

Think you'll be surprised by Bergvall

Wouldn't even call Eze a playmaker either, him and Maddison are vastly different players - look athis progressive passing stats as opposed to Maddison's

What makes Olise more a profile fit?

People get too hung up on profile fits tbh

We have no idea what profiles he scouting staff and Ange are looking for.

It’s down to them to make the profiles fit. As a fan the only thing I’m really fussed about is if the player is a good player or not. Do I want to watch them play? Can I see them being part of a team that could win things.

Eze ticks all those boxes for me.

Bergvall sounds like he’s going to play deeper but in reality Maddison was dropping pretty deep to get the ball at times. Our MF 3 blur the roles way past 6/8/10 when you look at what they actually do.
