Villa replacing Luiz with McKennie is hilarious
I really like Luiz. When we were linked with Mckennie a couple(??) of years back I followed his games a fair bit and I've got to say my opinion changed. His work rate was insane, without the ball always tracking back, picking the right runners, knowing when to sit off or engage, and guarantee he was the the player always supporting transition attacks too. On the ball he was okay, nothing spectacular, Luiz was easily the better of the two here. (I've not watched him since did I see him at his peek????)

May have just been his motivation levels playing for a relegation threatening club but he was absolutely dreadful at Leeds. So lazy it was unreal.

Luiz is miles ahead of him. Strikes me of a deal where Luiz clearly wants to move on to a bigger club and he's the most sellable asset so at least get two players out of it.

But Villas transfer window so far is an absolute stinkfest. Barkley, McKennie and an unproven Iling Jr (who tbh I wouldn't have minded here as Udogie back up) is horrendous for a CL club.

Yeah possibly, when I was watching him I'm fairly sure it was when he was at Juve (saw a couple of USMANTSTTA apps too) but the one thing that stood out was no one else on the pitch was keeping up with play from defence to attack as much him, doing it for the entire game too.

surprisingly mediocre after qualifying for the CL for the first time , very Levy-esque .

thought i suppose Samuel Iling-Junior is a bit of a wild card, plenty of time on his side
Truthfully as time goes on, it seems that finishing in the champions league doesn't change the world for a football club in the way that it used to. Premier league clubs already bring in big money. So while Champions League money is important... It's not quite the shift in financial power that it used to be.

Also the pull of playing in the champions league only really means anything if you're going to be in it frequently. Do top players really want to sign a 5 year contract at Villa, because of Champions League football? Probably not when they will almost certainly not be in again (at least for a while), and they won't probably won't even go too far the one time they are in it.

Ross Barkley
Re-signing Cameron Archer
Weston McKennie
Sam Iling Jr

On top of signing Zaniolo and Lenglet on loan last season.

Who the fuck is in charge of their transfers? Monchi still?!

This is what happens when you over indulge and try and fast track your way to success, they've spent a lot of money over the last few years, they can't spend anymore unless they sell, was always going to come crashing down at some point.

Edit- also 89% wage to turnover ratio, never gonna be sustainable.
