Now that Emerson looks set to leave (for AC Milan), these are the realistic RB candidates I would go for:

Vanderson de Oliveira

Micheal Kayode

Lutsharel Geertruida – can play RB and CB. But will he come to be an understudy?

Kyriani Sabbe – still only 18, so it he may not be ready for the EPL yet.
I warmed to Royal a lot, but seems like a decent move for him and us.

Side note: I saw the Zlat has become the Sporting Director of Milan! WTF? I can't help but like the guy, but that seems like a wildcard choice.

This.

I think we all, when we read or post a rumor, need to stop and think. Will this player improve our starting XI now or in 2 years time? Or is he just boosting the squad.

Based on this I would say Werner (squad), Bergvall (future). I was thinking it was an easy decision to keep Werner, but with this mindset, I'm not so sure.
Also...would this guy get into City/Woolwich/Liverpool (even Utd/Chelsea)'s first XI. Those teams are used to winning so if we genuinely have the ambition to grab our share of shiny cups, maybe we shouldn't sign players they wouldn't have a starting spot for.

Had we adopted that line of thinking, for sure we wouldn't have signed Werner.

Or maybe we do wanna win, but on the cheap. It's worked a treat them past 2 and a bit decade after all.

Maybe.

This feels a bit like a friendly journalist being briefed a message more than it being true.

Why would they change their mind and offer a contract now before the window even opens? It’s too random, even for them
Played well last 2 months of the season. Chelsea fans have changed their tune on him and most want him to stay. They're not as desperate for the cash before 30th June as we thought. Also because of the Euros he isnt being sold before that June deadline anyway so a new contract is stopping him leaving on the cheap in August or free next summer.
