I'm all for overpaying for the right player, but £80M to gamble on a player who's never played in a top league? That's ludicrous.
£65M for Solanke is overpaying, but I think he has a skillset that fits us like a glove, and he's fully Prem proven. £80M for Gyokeres is paying nigh on double what he's actually worth, making it a huge gamble.

It’s a nonsensical argument, West Ham make nowhere near the money we do but are happy to spend to improve the squad
We buy kids we can sell at a profit if they hit the big time
Being able to afford and being willing to spend are two completely different things.
I can assure you we can certainly afford any player that steps foot in the Portuguese League.
