We will be busy in the two weeks before kick off, I’ve no doubt about that.

Most of our targets will have been at the Euros/Copa/Olympics and we obviously aren’t going to sign someone during a tournament. Then we had a preseason tour to focus on while those transfer targets enjoyed their holidays. Now we are back home and prospective signings are coming back to training with their clubs, this is when the main action will happen.

Our business so far is not much different to City, Liverpool and Woolwich, just relax and wait for the transfer news.

Best thing about Solanke is he can genuinely do a bit of everything. He's got more of an all round game than Watkins and Toney. Last season he showed why he was so highly thought of by Chelsea and then Klopp when he was younger.

He’s a decent player and he would give us an actual fit and recognised striker which something we don’t have at the moment.

The fee is steep but if we can part ex 1 or 2 players and get him for £30m cash then we need to look at it as paying a mediocre fee whilst offloading one or two players we wanted shot of.

Imagine this........

Imagine, instead of flying off to Asia to play meaningless friendlies, we played meaningless friendlies here in the UK.

And then Imagine, by doing that, the players we want to sell are here and ready to go if needed, and, if we wanted to buy players, all the staff we need to do those deals are also here on UK/European time.

Imagine that.

But nope, gotta squeeze that Asian juice for every fucking penny.

Those 3 don’t need first 11 players as desperately as we do - our front 3 is meek at best

We are about to play 44+ games in this country.

The issue isn't going global to increase our reach and appeal. There's also still many weeks until the window closes. Don't piss your pants just yet.

Very true. But he's a bit more proven than Gyokores who everyone seems to go crazy about.
I watched Gyökeres a few times when he was at Coventry and he looked ok at that level, i would imagine all the Prem clubs had a look at him but nobody went for him even clubs lower down the league. £80m for a guy who has had a great season in the Portuguese league seems a massive gamble

Solanke played almost every single minute for Bournemouth to get his 19 goals and I don't know what some people are on if they think his 1st touch is reliable.

27 soon and a £65m clause allegedly, fuck off tbh.

"If you’re doubting Solanke because he has one season of consistent premier league goal output, you’re ignoring so much context.

Look at who he is, what he’s got, what he hasn’t, and how that would look for your team.

People are far too black and white when it comes to assessing players.

Striker A score 20+ goals for 3 seasons in a row. And striker B could score 20 goals in 3 seasons collectively. But it doesn’t NECESSARILY mean I believe striker A would be better for what I want.

This is where you must trust your instinct for assessing players and your knowledge and experience for if you believe the skillsets are transferable for what you want.

When I assess Solanke I see a striker who’s always been a very good footballer. High technical quality and variety, can link play over various distances and angles, has a large area of presence, can ball carry, back to goal, facing goal, runs in behind, variety of finish, good age, excellent athlete and reliable on the injury front as well as an immense presser. Someone who can play for the team. And I would also look at the context as to why last season was his first premier league breakout season in terms of goals scored. I would speak to him on many occasions, understand the person. See him live. Watch tonnes of games to see the context behind everything. And so much more.

The point I’m making is, if you’re purely judging Solanke because it’s not a sexy name from a European league, or because hes only had one high scoring prem season, you are failing to look at so much of what goes into analysing players and recruitment and ignoring context behind all of it."

Pretty much.

I now take everything from him with a pinch of salt having seen his postings on PEH

2022-23:
33 Apps and 6 goals

Surely that just shows growth and year on year improvement in the top flight?

19/20: 22 years old. 17 starts. 3 goals. 1 assist. Goal or assist every 411 minutes

22/23: 25 years old: 32 starts. 6 goals. 7 assists. Goal or assist every 221 minutes.

23/24: 26 years old: 37 starts. 19 goals. 3 assists. Goal or assist every 151 minutes.

Which also seems to coincide with Bournemouth also getting better. First year they got relegated. Second sesson got better as the year went on with O'Neil and then last season, much better with Iraola.

Which could also show that if you put Solanke in a better team, start him and play to his strengths, he'll score you goals.
