Romero is the best CB we’ve had since King,

When we have the best defence in the league 2 seasons running, then you can make that claim.

I’m just finding it hard to get my head around how despite our new DOF, our new “data driven approach to transfers” and all the bollox we’ve been fed, the man that Lange and co. appear to have landed on is…. 27 year old Dom Solanke, who’s had one good season in the PL, for 60 plus million, 2 weeks before the season starts… like seriously? Are people actually happy with this?

And let’s be real here, IF this transfer happens, it’s gonna be a last minute one, because between our frugality and Bournemouth (rightly) likely being very pissed we’ve come in for their most important player at this point in the window, strap in for an absolute shit show of excruciating brinkmanship. It has Saido Berahino in 2015 written all over it.

Like when we signed Richarlison, you would have done very well to find any Spurs fan that would have wanted Solanke before he was seriously linked, but now that it’s clear we actually do want him you have people coming from everywhere trying to defend it and justify it rather than calling it out for what it is.
I've already got reservations about Ninja Lange. Oh hang on maybe it this type

All at their best, start/bench/transfer the following partnerships

King/Woodgate
Alderweirald/Vertonghen
Romero/Van der Ven

Start Toby/Vertonghen - brilliant partnership, classy as fuck on the ball, solid defensively and great understanding.

Bench VDV/Romero. They’re good individuals but not as good a partnership as people think. The system doesn’t help them but they do get exposed.

Sell Woodgate/King.

I would have to respectfully disagree.

I am absolutely convinced Alvarez would have been incredible for us. He is exactly who we should have been aiming for, give him the challenge of being our main man up front, our main striker, in Anges system, and I am sure he would have scored an absolute hat full.
He scored 19 goals for City last season, despite playing most of the season as a winger/attacking midfielder.

He is a striker that IMO would have been tailor made for Anges system, a pressing machine, technically very good, and his hold up play is not to be sniffed at either despite your reservations.
He would have been a signing that showed real ambition.

But alas, once again not to be. I’m actually disappointed he’s going to Atletico, as he’ll likely be used as a kind of workhorse number 10 by Simeone in the mould of Griezmann as opposed to fulfilling his potential as a striker.
Good post/analysis. Agree, would've loved to have seen us get him.

King is the best natural defender out of all of them prime King was crazy.Toby Jan the best balance. Romero and VDV have not done enough recency bias at work. I'm hoping Romero can change this by seasons end but I don't think the system will allow it. If I need four centerbacks for the set it's, King, Jan, Toby , Romero. In that order.

depends on the system, I would think Toby and Jan would struggle in the current Tottenham team but they were exquisite under poch and probably would've been under conte
