How Dry should our Powder be?

Right, even I am getting impatient now.

I’ve firmly believed that Levy would step up with a strong football setup and provide money to it once the stadium was built and we had some decent revenue through the door. And I’ve stood by this belief in the face of many on here taking the piss.

But I’m at the point of admitting defeat here. I get the “not as easy as buying a pint of milk” argument, but the window has been open long enough for us to have done some more business. Bergvall and Gray look good, but we need a couple of top quality players in to our first team. And with the money we should have and the infrastructure we have in place, signings shouldn’t be taking this long.

”Hello Mr Player, do you want to join us and if so, what salary are you looking for?” doesn’t seem to be the most time consuming conversation to have. Levy, Lange, etc - fucking get on with it. I’ll admit I’ve been wrong all along unless something major pops soon, but I’ll be fucking furious if I have to.

I'm calm :ledley:

Haha don't get your hopes up, they're already talking about Lankshear

Just set your expectations on this because this is exactly what's going to happen.
I’m not against Lankshear getting significant minutes though. He looks ready. Ideally we’d loan him to the Champ for a season, he’d score a shedload, learn to link the play better and come back ready to go next year.

But if we do that we need to sign another striker this year and you create a bottleneck next summer. It’s a quandary…

A lot of this stuff is relationship based. Often club A who want a player will wait for the Club B to get their replacement in - it’s a way of doing right by Club B so the replacement doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, because Club C can see that club B have pocketed a lot of money.

E.g.) Forest didn’t start being open to selling Brennan to us until after they bought Elanga from Man Utd.

15 open play goals in 3 seasons?

Going 10 straight without scoring?

Are you sure?

All a bit recency biasey for me. Solanke prior to last season had a real issue with goalscoring himself. Toney had big mitigating circumstances with the ban and Brentford create nowhere near the amount of chances Bournemouth do. Playing as a CF for Brentford = a lonely task involving a shit load of grunt work. They play shit on a stick football.

Solanke puts himself about more and is more ‘dynamic’ for want of a better term. He is a good player. I see why Ange wants him. Toney is more cultured and better at holding the ball and winning aerial duels. I wouldnt class either as lethal finishers, they’re just good but not top level centre forwards. Both were behind on xG last season.

I wouldn’t be against signing either. Solanke makes more sense stylistically but I do think £65m for him is a nonsense. He is 26. This is his first ever season of scoring goals consistently, prior to this his best season was six goals - six!!! I rated his all round profile before the goals came but for 65m you’re essentially hoping last season will be the norm.

1 - Solanke and Gray £65m and £40m
2- Alveraz and Neves £81m and £50m

Note: prices quoted may well be bollox!

CF
1&2 both Premier League tested
2 is younger
1 scored more
1&2 both press like nutters lol
2 is £20m more expensive
1 is home grown
2 is overseas

DM
1&2 havent played at the highest level
1 went to Asia
2 played for Portugal
1 no 'new country tax' on mental performance
2 I wanted us to sign him lol
1 is home grown
2 is overseas

Can't help but think '2' would be better 'supported' by certain fans and '1' not so much

I voiced my opinion back of house on Solankie earlier today. Based on snippets of information and admittedly not all that much substance, I think he's being lined up as the fall back option, as we are definitely in contact. My man thinks we have someone else is in mind but it's being well hidden. Normally when there is a mystery man in the mix, kept under wraps, it's because he is the primary target.

Guess we will find out shortly.

Solanke it is then..
