I want Johnson to succeed as much as anyone else but his crossing and ability to beat his man seems almost non-existent. I reckon Aaron Lennon was a much better actual winger than Johnson is. I so wish we had purchased Kubo or Mitoma instead.

He is probably the best low cross winger in the premier league and he can do it with his first touch as well.

I have no idea why you think Brennan can't cross but you are flat out wrong and that's not an opinion.

I accept your criticism but still am completely unimpressed by Johnson. Hope he comes good but can’t see him ever being the creator winger we want to see out right.

Glad to see we are spending again and still hoping we can add at RW.

Do we see Kulusevski as a #10/#8 now rather than a RWF? The signing of Solanke, with Richy's return to fitness and the emergence of Lankshear, probably means today is the last time we'll see him used as a #9.

Would selling him (e.g. to Newcastle for £35M) and giving Palace the full release clause for Eze be an upgrade? I think so.
IMO he’ll be a backup 10/9/RW til at least Jan.

That would be an outrageous offer tbh - Skipp easily valued at 15m +/- so 60m overall package, far too much for Neto imv

Skipp slightly on the low side but probably due to not being part of the first 11 much.

£60m is pretty normal for an attacker who is the best player at their club. That is just the going market rate be it Solanke, Eze, Neto whoever. Only when the contract is close to done like Bissouma or Maddison do you get cheaper deals.

He had 10 assists in his first season at 22 years of age. I guess it depends on who else we sign as winger and how many minutes Brennan gets but even if you are right that he's far from a 1v1 dribble creator, he will still be creating more than 10 goals for other this season IMO and probably scoring close to 10 as well.

So, in the year Ange has been our manager (and Nunn, Lange etc. all came on board) we have offloaded 15 players (and counting ...):

Lloris
Royal
Sanchez
Dier
Rodon
Tanganga
Perisic
Sessengnon
Ndombele
Winks
Hojbjerg
Gil
Moura
Kane
Parrott

Some really big wages off the books as a result of that (Lloris, Perisic, Kane etc.).

In the same period we have signed 15 players (younger, hungrier players with lower weekly wages):

Vicario
Porro
Phillips
Vuskovic
Van de Ven
Dragusin
Kulusevski
Maddison
Bergvall
Gray
Johnson
Veliz
Solomon
Solanke
Yang

I expect another 3 or 4 to leave as we still have too many senior players to even make the bench (and we expect to signat least 1 more!). For example, if this is our (hypothetical) starting line up:

Vicario
Porro -- Romero -- VdV -- Udogie
Bissouma
Sarr --- Maddison
Johnson ---- Solanke ---- Son
Could you pick 9 players from the 15 below for the bench:
Forster, Austin, Spence, Dragusin, Davies, Gray, Bentancur, Bergvall, Skipp, Lo Celso, Werner, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Solomon, Moore
Picking 9 would still leave 6 players sitting at home, and that is without adding the other youngsters who have impressed in pre-season (and will now surely be loaned out) ... Phillips, Devine, Donley, Lankshear.

I would be looking to offload Skipp, Solomon and Lo Celso, whilst encouraging Davies and Forster to be bit part players who can transition to coaching roles. If Davies wants to maximise minutes in the autumn of his career I'd let him leave on a free as he has been a great servant.

This does show the value of players like Gray and Bergvall who can cover FB, CB, #6, #8 and #10 between them.

Also, is it possible that Bentancur and Kulusevski could be sold to make room for Mikey Moore or a marquee WF signing?

Vic
Porro - Romero - VDV - Udogie
Biss
Sarr--Maddison
Johnson - Solanke - Son

Forster
Gray - Drag - Davies - Donley
Bentancur
Kulu - Bergvall
Moore - Richy - Werner

This is how I roughly see our A & B team.

Obviously Skipp, Reg, GLC and Solomon are surplus to requirements and will be moved on.

In the first team it seems we are planning for a new RW so Johnson would move down the pecking order.

In the second team the clear weakness is at LCB/LB and there have been rumours we also want to fill that position.
Forster is a poor backup but I don't think we will improve there this summer.

Tough decisions will need to be made on Devine, Lankshear and Donley. All have great pre-seasons but will get very few minutes if they stay. I think Donley will be kept until (and if) we bring in another left-sided defender. So I expect Devine and Lankshear loans to be announced soon. They are both good enough to get top-end Championship loans imo.

Spence? He would be the back up RB and maybe even LB at a push for me

Ah yes that's the one I forgot!

He could be used on either side I suppose but the question is also where you fit Gray in. He's shown at Leeds he can play RB and in pre-season he's played CB, 6 and 8 for us.

On paper I think our best 2nd team defence is probably:

Gray - Drag - Davies - Spence

Could make an argument for:

Spence - Gray - Drag - Davies

You are overlooking that at any one time at least 3 players will be unavailable due to injuries and suspensions.

Spence will be the first rotation RB IMO. Also wondering if Phillips might stick around and get Davies rotation minutes at CB. I get that Gray struggled vs Bayern but I'm still willing to bet he's breathing down Bissouma's neck for that #6 role by the end of the season.

It's really one to watch the point you make about the youngsters and the 3rd rotation role for a few positions. Is there really minutes for Lankshear as our 3rd CF? Evidence on last season is probably yes but if it's City away where Ange needs Lankshear as our 3rd CF for any reason, is he really giving him the start? or shifting Kuklusevksi/Son in there? If the answer is no, then Lankshear needs to go on loan.

Has Ange played Gray at RB yet in preseason?
Not sure he sees him as an option there??
Think Gray will play as a 6 or an 8 and take Bentancur spot in the squad
