Depends what you mean by panic move.

Signing a winger that suits what we need, regardless of whether he was first choice or not, isn't something I'd consider a panic move.

Signing a winger for the sake of getting another offensive player in that doesn't really strengthen our starting eleven is something I'd consider a panic move.

Based on what you're saying though, it sounds like any offensive player we get in now will be a panic move because it's late August and we've needed a winger all summer. Unless it someone you personally like.

I just want a winger. I don't care if he was our fifth choice on the list. If he improves our starting eleven and gives the team something it lacks, get them in.
No Coman would be a panic move because of his age and profile plus the fact that it's pretty clear that Bayern want to shift him. Similar to Chiesa.

They are both the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of profile that we have been looking at.

Yep, I do. It's a bit confusing to keep up though cos sometimes it's journalistic nonsense and other times it can be trusted. Do you think we should be looking for a starting RW incidentally?
Yes. But it's not an immediate priority for me.

LB/LCB depth fucked us more than any other position last year.

Like him or not, Johnson did a job for us. I suspect he will do better numbers this year with an actual striker playing. Of course he can be upgraded and I think Johnson suits tired/stretched defences as an impact sub but we have more pressing concerns.

Including what happens if Vicario

He literally fits the profile of a player who we've been looking for?

If it's an age thing which is seems like it is, who said we're only after players of a certain age? I'm being told Solanke is 27 next month, Coman is a over a year older than him, what am I missing?

Think I'd prefer Raphina on loan over every option (failing that Comon on loan).
Kubo I'm not sold on, Adringa v.good young player imo but maybe the board are not totally sold to the point of forking out 40m and believe Moore will turn out to be a star, meaning a loan of an already proven player who will make a difference immediately is the way forward?

Werner on loan on one side and Raphinha/Coman on loan on the other side.

Doesn't send me signals of our club being able to execute the plans they have made. Maybe I am being harsh there but 2 stop gaps in the forward areas, which are pretty much the most important area of our system...

Gives me serious Lenglet on loan for Conte who needed 3 top class CBs to play 3ATB...
You can tell me that Raphinha, Coman and Werner are all better than Lenglet and I'd agree with you, but you get my point?

Raphinha on loan in isolation? I can get it...kinda but mercenaries on loan on other side? That's what skint clubs do.

Come on, that'd be like saying van der Vaart was a panic buy because of his age and the fact Madrid wanted him gone and we signed him late on

Sometimes opportunities arise in a window. Perhaps Coman wasn't a viable option earlier in the window but now he is as he wants to move on and Bayern want to move him on and we think he can add something to the team.

He certainly provides what we need in a winger.

However, none of us really know. It seems like any no name journalist can report anything these days regarding Spurs and a random player and it'll create some sort of discussion. They know what they're doing.

Guess we'll find out within the next 3 weeks.

I can fully believe we were after Solanke all summer. We were waiting to see if the price would come down and it seems that it didn't but maybe we got better terms.

Coman? come on now, you aren't even fooling yourself if you want to argue we have been waiting all summer to go after him.

Van De Vaart was the definition of opportunism over good planning.

I'm as disappointed as anyone that we have not yet made additional signings beyond Solanke. I still hope that we remedy that before the window closes.

Having said that, and I may be very naive, I think we are in a much better position, even now, for the new season than we were last year.

First, I think Solanke is a really good fit for our system and we will be much more clinical with chances this year than last.

Second, last year we had a pretty good first team but were shallow when it came to replacements who fitted Ange's system should we suffer injuries or suspensions. We all know what happened after the first ten games. This year, we have far better options, some of whom may well force their way into the first team at some point, on merit. The likes of Bergvall, Gray, Spence, and even Moore or Lankshear make us stronger than last year as a squad.

Third, the players will have had the benefit of the new system for a full season and, if reports are to be believed, have been working on fine tuning during pre-season.

Fourth, historically, teams managed by Ange have kicked on in his second season in charge.

All in all, I'm excited, as I always am, for the new season. COYS.

I don't believe this story but do you think if a player becomes available on the market is panicking despite them providing the exact profile we need?

More opportunistic then panacking, panacking ironically would be to go for someone like Eze.

And it worked.

Wasn't a panic buy. Just an opportunity to improve the first team

Great lets just go into every window hoping that Van DerVaart falls in our lap on deadline day.

It's not like we have tried it before and ended with a backlog of bang-average players who we can't shift.

Remember data led scouting and cutting edge recruitment strategies? Those days were fun, now we are back to what deals can Levy negotiate late in the window. Hello darkness my old friend

Makes absolute sense. I’m sure those 3 will become excellent players for us with a bit of seasoning, but they need to play real men’s games to develop.

A talent at the level of Moore doesn’t need loaning. You can just tell.

I dont think Moore can go out on loan to any domestic clubs anyway.

Could be sent out on loan abroad but probably best off keeping him here. He'll hopefully get around 1000 minutes of football minimum across 45+ games this season and that'd be great development for him.

Knew this link would pop up as Bayern got more and more desperate. I personally think he’ll become an albatross sooner rather than later but he is a top winger and probably the best available option when fit.

Issues: wages, injury risk, may not want to press and deal with all the physicality

I see it as unlikely. For him, one more injury and he’s done.
I don’t rate him

How is he the exact profile we need?

Right-footed, predominantly left winger with massive wages. Werner OR Coman could make sense to me but 2 mercenaries on loan that cover the same wing?

Yep that's exactly what I said.

What other player on Coman or Van der Vaarts level "fell on our lap" and turned out average?

And what if Coman showed up on those databases? But was deemed unattainable?

Would that have made you happier?

The wages dished out from other big clubs are fucking insane.
One of the reasons I always want us to avoid their declining assets like the plague.

All in all I’d want us to go for Adingra, yes he’s raw but we’re crying out for his profile.

That Anthony & Gordon take in particular could not have aged worse.
