How Dry should our Powder be?

Well it seems as if Moore is going to be getting mins this season so not sure LW is a huge priority.

Agree about LB and probably a 6 too, but woefully short is pure hyperbole.
It's more so a player that can all three of those positions if needed. Ideally one that operates mainly as a 10, because Maddison can't be trusted to stay fit or be consistent.

I don't know how you don't think we're really short at the 6 to be honest. We leak goals like a relegation club, one ball over the top bypasses our midfield time and time again and we haven't had a player to sweep up that mess for a very long time.
It's no coincidence that when we had Vic there, we had one of the best defences in the league. Bayern paying a premium for a nearly 30 year old shows how important a player of that calibre is. Bissouma started well and went to absolute pot. We have Skipp who god love him isn't on our level, we have an untested 18 year old who might be good there, but mainly played at RB.
Ugarte is available and should be a player the club are looking at. I'd have argued it was a big a need as a new striker to be honest.

POK said we had 3 deals with the Green light just waiting on the other club. He hasn’t broken one story this summer and only chimed in on Solanke after the fact.
This is 100% the truth he used to be an agent for a few youth team players about 10 years ago ,he stopped being an agent and is now a long distance lorry driver .he has zero connection with the club anymore and like most on social media is billy bull shitter fraud .i know him personally .

I do believe O’Keefe has sources but these things come and go quickly in football. Lange “working in silence” may just mean that the traditional agent/boardroom/employee apparatus isn’t clued in as much as they were previously. Anyways proof is in the pudding and to be quite honest there’s been two months of nothing sans Solanke.
Too many listen to ITK, and whilst it is I'm sure passed on in good faith, it's the same every year.
The club has learnt lessons and or, is going to support the manager.
And yet, the team is always left short of where it needs to be, but we tried etc.

I don't get the excuse here. By the time all the deadweight is shifted, the savings of the wage bill are huge. Even if we signed an Eze and got those players out, we'll probably have a net spend of 30/40m. The club is a money making monster, world-class facilities and stadium and the London pull.

10 years ago we couldn't compete with the United's or Liverpool's of this world, but we do now, and in an amazing financial position to do so. Clubs like West Ham and Brighton going out and spending serious money, when they don't have near the resources as us. There's absolutely no reason that Spurs don't go out and spend properly.

Liverpool weren't title contenders when they went out and addressed the issues that needed addressing and spent big on big name players. The next season they were absolutely title contenders.

I don't know how people can excuse the club's unwillingness to spend, as if we're some nearly club. Despite what you think, Spurs are a huge club and should start acting like it.

And before someone chimes in with the losses made. That is creative accounting, with the stadium debt, that is inflation busting, long-term structured debt (ie very, very good debt), however they record depreciation on their assets, means that by recording a loss, they don't pay tax on profit and shareholder payouts. If the club was struggling in any capacity, Levy wouldn't have given himself a record bonus. They also wouldn't have injected £150m to own anothercirca 2% of the club.

Levy just wants to get an outside investor to come in, pile money into the playing side, so that he can focus on the non-footballing operations, like property development etc.

There's no excuse to not be spending big money, none what so ever. We were told that the frugal spending was to take advantage of the PSR rules and when clubs were concerned and not able to act like they had, that we could pounce. The former has happened, all around Europe for the last 12 months, but we've never capitalised. Until there's change at that end of the club, it'll always be the same old story.
I don't know the finances of the club to the detail. But I know when there are shareholders, they expect money back in return of their investment. That's how it works.

Should we spend more? Maybe, probably. But I simply don't know our finances well enough to make the statement that we should make signings worth £100m every TW.

And another thing, we don't know if the clubs that do spend this kind of money on signings actually have that kind of money or they're just breaking FFP left and right and bribing their way out of it (well, Man City we know).

It seems, we have a sound business model right now and hopefully we'll see that develop into a top, top team over the next few years. And by that, I don't mean that we shouldn't spend money on an Eze, a Gallagher or someone else.

I do agree that we haven't seen a top, top signing over the past many years. That is probably what it takes to make that title contender statement. But you also have to convince a player that this is the club to become the best - and give them a shit load of money. And just fucking over our salary policy for one or two players is not responsible in my opinion.

When the likes of fucking Bournemouth are spending 40 - 50 million on a player mate, Tottenham Hotspur spending 60 million is not a reason to start stroking off the chairman or talking of Marquee signings. Especially after banking nearly £100milion for Solanke's predecessor.
It's the absolute bare minimum a club of our immense size and wealth should be doing.
Solanke is about the most unambitious striker you could possibly buy for 65m quid

You're right, should have just given Bournemouth an extra £30m for Solanke on top, just to appease our insecure fanbase and make them feel like we are competing with the bg boys 😍

Solanke for £85m sounds well cool!!!
I’m not against the Solanke signing I think it’s a good deal however we sold Kane last season FFS and are just getting round to replacing him now!
Why not spend the money like the cherries have and get someone in last season , who knows his goals could have been the difference between 4th and 5th place!

It's relative to what our aims are though right?

Ange has claimed all along that his ambition is to win titles. Well we are 100% woefully short of mounting a title challenge.

Is the squad better than last season's? Yes, assuming our 18-year olds Gray and Bergvall deliver on their potential. We are stronger at CF and we do have Dragusin from the start.

Has the starting XI been improved? Probably slightly, assuming Solanke's form translates but unchanged outside of him.

We're well set to give top 4 a right good go again but are we any closer to winning a major trophy? No.

If Levy can squeeze Chelsea to below 35m I can see Gallagher happening at the end of the window. Not my fav player, but if he is who the manager wants then back him. Scores more than Bissouma and works harder too, likely needed if Bentancur does not rediscover his pre injury form, however if he does and we get the old Bents back then it will be like a new signing too.

Eze is likely a pipe dream, the wheelbarrow full of unlimited money that Levy starts as a rumour every transfer window never materialises into anything, we will get the "we tried, keeping powder dry for January" scenario all over again.

Left back remains a concern, Spence is at least now showing desire and while his attacking ability is not such a concern, his defending ability remains unproven.

A reserve keeper would not go amiss either.

We have also seriously whittled down our squad for a team that is likely to have a lot more games this season, esp with likes of younger stars like Devine going on loan, still plenty to do before window closes.

Who was that someone last season?

Funny thing is everyone is screaming for Gyokeres now yet he was available last Summer for cheap, why wasn't anyone saying anything then? :gallashmm:

You say we are not title contenders. Why not? Why can we not be title contenders what is stopping us?
On paper I would say we don’t have anyone to replace Maddison if he starts the season like he finished the last one , I’m also worried about son and if he needs a rest or he starts a decline we are left with Timo!
Also feel we are missing a 6 , Bennie maybe could play there but will he get injured again?
Also who plays LWB when Udogie is injured or needs a rest ?
Don’t get me wrong there is plenty to be positive about , we have a lot of young exciting players and if it clicks then who knows what will happen however I feel as always we are being left a bit short on depth and if it doesn’t start well things could get very toxic very quickly as let’s be honest it was just our good start that saved us last season, post Chelsea was maybe 1 or 2 good games rest was shit!

He’s a fraud he just says what everyone else is saying at the time ,you show me one time he has said before someone else that was right I can go on twitter and find 1000 people saying the same thing .he use to be a agent for a couple youth team players 10 years ago he has nothing to to do with the club any more .
