Again, massive correlation across all teams in the Prem between pressing and possession.

Don't fully understand this one. The pressing speed to disrupt opponent's possession chain is pretty clear but average direct speed upfield is how metres per second the ball travels? is that opponents when you press? or you as a team attacking?

Interesting to compare Brighton to Spurs...

For context, opponents (points) so far:
Brighton: Everton (4), United (7), Woolwich (14), Ipswich (4), Forest (9), Chelsea (13) = 51
(Everton red card 66', Woolwich red card 49', Forest red card 83')

Tottenham: Leicester (3), Everton (4), Newcastle (11), Woolwich (14), Brentford (7), United (7) = 46
(United red card 42')

Arguably any stats difference are not due to vastly different quality of opponents.

Looks like being a real slug-fest this weekend with the ball changing hands every 11 seconds on average.

Good stuff. Very interesting.

Do you (or anyone else) know if this was Hürzeler's coaching style at St Pauli? Or is there still some leftover tactical muscle memory from De Zerbi?

Never watched them.

They averaged 56.9% possession in the Bundesliga last season. Tackles in the attacking 3rd 1.85 per game, and in the middle 3rd 6.0 per game, with a team that topped the league.

Brighton so far this season: 61.5%, 3.67, 7.83.
Brighton last season: 59.8%, 2.63, 6.63.

So much closer to De Zerbi's Brighton than Hürzeler's St Pauli, although Hürzeler has taken Brighton to the next level. Maybe it's a Board directive to "play like Ange", who knows.

Tottenham for comparison: 61.6% possession in the EPL last season with 3.29 tackles in attacking 3rd per game and and 6.94 in the middle 3rd.
This season so far 62.8%, 4.0, 7.33 so have taken it up a notch.

What is going on with Woolwich. Surely they can't compete with City playing like this.
Numbers will be skewed by red cards in 2 games, one being fairly early against City. They also parked the bus against us but that one they had no excuse for. We finished 5th last year and they are meant to be a legit title contender. Not even Jose would have parked the bus at WHL when he was at Chelsea.

There is definitely something up with them, though.
