Both Newcastle games I thought we deserved something. First game of the season against Leicester we definitely dropped 2 points. Should have been 4-0 up at half time. Brighton game where we threw away the 2 goal lead, I remmeber us missing big chances for 3-0, Brennan hit the post. We definitely could have won lots of them games. Even the 1-0 home defeat to Woolwich could have swung either way. We've not been unlucky, quite the opposite. What games have we deserved more, i can think maybe Newcastle away we should have got a draw and thats about it. On the other hand i can think of several where we should have got a pasting, Palace, Bournemouth x2, Chelsea x2, Everton away to name a few. Bar 2 or 3 matches we've been abysmal for 13 months.
Palace were lucky to beat us 1-0 that day. We gifted them a goal and had the better chances. I agree on Bournemouth, Chelsea x2 and Everton away. Scoreline flatterred us them days. Same with the 2-1 loss at Woolwich.
I just think its quite remarkable that a team who's 14th in the league is comfortably clear in 6th on goal difference. Its a total outlier that you wouldn't expect to ever see in April. Usually the Goal difference would be in line with league position.
For example, Villa are 6th with a goal difference of 0. We are 13 goals better off than them but down in 14th! Its madness. Villa have just been extremely good at winning tight games and have been ripped apart in some of their defeats. We just never win tight games, extremely weak mentality and no fight. Its just very interesting and would have me thinking that under a new manager, we could easily finish ahead of the likes of Villa next season who have maybe rode their luck in some close games.
