Management The Don Levy Appreciation Thread!

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Levy established us in the top 4 for many years. We played in the cl final. We had a killer team and should've won something. It's definitely not just on Levy that we didn't.

He also made errors in the transfer market. Some that cost us.

Overall, I never fully understood the strong dislike for him. I think many London clubs would've wished they had a Levy at their club. It could've been much, much worse.

And he was up against oligarchs, oil money, states. You name it. Looking back, I think he will be quite pleased with what he achieved.

There’s a great saying I’ve come across in business: “what got us to this point isn’t necessarily what is going to take us forward and on to the next level”. Levy has undoubtedly improved the organisation, infrastructure and financial stability of the club. But he’s not the right person to take us forward to sporting greatness.

For me there are 2 sides to the Levy tenure . The off and on field success .
I think he lucked out a few times on field .
Bale money allowed us to be more competitive in the market .
Poch / Kane .
Unforgivable- not backing Poch
Not backing redknapp
Nelson/ saha window
Poch Wanting Sadio mane and paying more for Sissoko .
Being far too slow to complete deals ( that list is endless - Bruno Fernandes , Grealish to Eze )
Etc etc

Off the pitch he was a 10/10 chairman , taking us to the new ground , being in a comfortable financial position I don’t think anyone can fault him and he leaves us in a much better position to when he arrived .

And all he’s done is establish us in the top four

All the other top clubs have peaks and troughs but we hover just above mediocrity

He’s had quarter of a century and essentially won fuck all. Good riddance

Fair points. It is difficult to judge without knowing the financials in detail. I for one will not take Simon "they've got banking covenents" Jordan's rationale for Levy's behaviour, but equally we don't know how constrained Tottenham are, and have to bear in mind that Levy and Lewis have made incredible amounts of money out of the club. I think what has really pissed people off, rightly IMO, is:

- the failure to back Poch at the critical moment
- always trying to nickel and dime everyone when actually slightly "overpaying" would have served the club far better. Ultimately ending up it seems as a least favoured counterparty
- the random Gil and Tel type prospects that handicap us

Thank you Mr. Levy; you lifted us out of mid-table mediocracy and got us a seat at the big boy's table. That will always be appreciated, as will the magnificent stadium you've gotten us. It's a pity you were not able to build on that and take us to the next level, but I thank you for what you have accomplished for us.

I hope not to get too familiar with the name of the next chairperson, and that he/she does not become a household name. The only name that should matter is Spurs!

COYS! Onward and upward!

Thanks for fecking off , move the thread to General football

Agreed. Textbook example of how to totally fuck up building on momentum.
I think that window was the one a lot of people twigged he wasn't prepared to dare to do. Ultimately outstayed his welcome and should of really gone at the end of the season we moved in to the new stadium. The atmosphere has just deteriorated from then and I don't think I've ever seen the fans more divided.

Although I was critical of him, he did make us into a rich club. Only issue I had with him is football and I'm glad he is going out with a trophy. It has to be football first now for the club. Hope the new management can get the job done.
