Match The ENGLAND thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He might have been chastened by the last time out when they were hammered by the US, 5-1 under similar squad situations.

I was surprised at how poor they were compared to the last time we played and lost to them when they had Suarez and Cavani. They were extremely negative until they scored and then the momentum of the goal gave them a bit of belief for the last few minutes.

England were pretty poor tonight too but had the excuse of being relative strangers to each other and little cohesion.

Just finished watching and I thought Dom and Djed did quite well...slabhead just carried the ball through the middle into oblivion rather than use Djed wide!

There were a number of decent performances including from those two. But some of them needed to be 8 or 9 out of 10’s rather than 7’s.

I thought the two full backs and Maguire were solid. Garner was neat and tidy without being creative. Wharton and Palmer had decent cameos. Rashford had his usual up and down performance.

The biggest loser on the night was Calvert Lewis. Heading is one of the few things he’s supposed to be good at, you can’t be missing chances like that.

Other than the fact that no-one can beat a player and create something.

People always do this with international friendlies. This was a bunch of randoms thrust together against a settled Uruguay team. Maybe a few of that team will be the starting eleven in the World Cup.

There really is no point in judging this as anything other than an exercise to improve fitness and to see if anyone on the periphery has anything we need to see.

I know last night's game was a friendly etc, but I really do hope that there won't be an over reliance on set-pieces to create goal-scoring opportunities during the WC. "Winning" free-kicks around the box and forcing corners or throw-ins, was certainly a feature of last night's uninspiring performance.

Not sure what the thinking is with Calvert Lewin ... Kane could lose both legs in a freak boating accident and he is still starting up front.

One swallow doesn't make a summer

But we all already knew that England aren’t great at breaking down teams that put all men behind the ball. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone to see a B team struggle. England will be at their best playing against sides that actually put emphasis on attack and leave more space as we are a counter attacking team.

Really ?
So who are the speed merchants that will outpace the other team ?

Started watching part way through. Fell asleep almost instantly. Genuinely can’t believe anyone would think to pay to watch that in person. These kind of friendlies are almost always gash. From what I’ve read, the player who came out of this best was probably… Danny Welbeck?

The CFs behind Kane in the pecking order are about as good as John Fashanu was. When Kane retires from international football, England are going to have to rethink how they're going to attack. I reckon using Foden or one of the other attacking players as a false 9 might be the best approach when the time comes.

The two Dominics shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad, it just goes to show the lack of options in that position.

It's not an issue which is specific to England either, IMO after Kane the next best CF belonging to these British isles is probably Troy Parrott.
