Match The ENGLAND thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Can't blame him for anything done at the World Cup, we've always been shite at Tournaments often one of the first teams to fly back home and this includes playing sides that are shite too. We weren't as good as Croatia, simple as that and the players available to him to "improve" just were not there.

As for this selection who else are you expecting him to bring in that adds quality? Who's this wonder player that he hasn't selected?

Not sure we are looking for a wonder player - I doubt they exist yet.

But what the WC should have shown to Southgate is that the squad is threadbare in a number of areas.

One area is striker and goalscoring AM's (plus the creative area which Llallana may go some what to remedy). So IMO crazy not to look at a couple of possible options which is perhaps Callum Wilson and James Maddison - the latter having the advantage of being a Leicester player where the 2nd match is being played.

As the 2nd match is a friendly I hold out a vague hope that Southgate might call up a few players to ad to the squad for that - but it maybe a forlorn hope

Interesting squad of players with James Maddison, Lewis Cook, Tom Davies Ade Lookman, Ryan Seessegnon and Ben Chilwell should all have been reviewed by Southgate - Abraham and Solanke were called up to the full England side before the WC but clearly too early for the pair.

Several of the others, including our own Kyle Walker-Peters and for example Demerara Gray could easily come under Southgate's gaze in the future.

A vey talented squad, but definitely time to review the manager who may hold the players back.

The year younger squad including our own Japhet Tangana some of whom will get promoted to u21's in due course - given the limited strikers that England have worth tracking Ben Bereton who is starting to make a name for himself and George Hirst who has gone from Sheffield Wednesday to Leuven for a small development fee and given common ownership with Leicester is thought likely to go there where he will become very valuable !

This year (and u19's) are quite strong year groups but maybe still a surprise that the likes of TJ Eyoma and Oliver Skipp (for E u19's if not E u20's) have been overlooked

Notable in this year group are Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho who some fancied for the full England squad. TJ Eyoma makes this squad but not Oliver Skipp for reasons that don't make sense, Nyra Kirby who turned down a Scholarship in favour of Crystal Palace also makes the squad

Surprisingly there are no Spurs youngsters included although lots of candidates, but 6 Woolwich players underlining that their youth production has resumed after a few years in the doldrums
Curtis Jones seems to be the main man of this group.

Lallana injured in first training session and withdraws from the squad - and one assumes from next Liverpool squad ?

So that was Southgate's answer to creativity ?

Might aswell call up Maddison now.

Good to have the E u21 coach support ?

James Maddison 'not ready for England call-up', says coach Aidy Boothroyd

"I don't think he is ready for the senior team yet," Boothroyd told Sky Sports. "But he certainly has got a lot of qualities.

"He is very creative and he's done really, really well for us.

“He's a late developer, if you look at his pathway he's played in Scotland, League Two, League One, the Championship and now the Premier League.

"He's done the steps and got the games under his belt. He is on our radar in the U21s and he's on the seniors' radar."

My mates boy got called up to this after only a couple of Haribo cup games in his pro career. Got on for 3 or 4 mins today too. Massive achievement!
