Dier/Rice and Winks in the same CM - deary me

I know right, I mean two of our lads running MF for England would be horrendous wouldn't it...

Think how much better it would it be if they weren't even in the running at all and thus deemed far inferior to the rest of the countrys MFs instead.

One can only dream, right?

Just got round to watching the highlights - of course with my very Lilywhite tainted glasses on - but I thought that Kane was a huge reason as to why we got 5 goals. For all the goals, baring the one he scored, I had the impression that he was occupying two defenders. It was clearest for the 1st and 2nd goal. Michael Keane was completely unmarked, because Savic only had eyes for Harry.

Can't say much about the rest of the game, but it would explain why he had - going by the reports I read - a rather quiet game, but just goes to show, that as long as the others can step up and use the space that's created for them, then it's all good.

They’re far too similar and very limited both technically and creatively - will never work. Has nothing to do with which team they play for

Some tricky squad selection questions coming up for England with Spurs (and Liverpool) playing CL final on June 1.

Although PL ends this coming week with 3 weeks to the CL final on 1 June, I'd guess Poch gives the players a week off and then 2 weeks to prepare for the match.

With PL 2019/20 starting on 10 August, Spurs pre-season needs to start on about Monday 1 July (or very latest 8 July to get the players fit for the start - but that's tight). Which in turn means there is a month (or maybe 5 weeks if we curtail pre-season) for players to take the minimum 3 week holiday they are allowed between CL Final and the start of pre-season....and given our 10 players who made WC final four last summer had almost no break, they probably need more than 3 weeks rest this summer ....

Teams other than Spurs and Liverpool meanwhile will be able to give their players a 7 week break from this coming weekend to 30 June, before they start their pre-season on 1 July. And that extended break will be a huge advantage to those teams with their players fully fit and rested.

Meanwhile England have 2 Nations League Matches on June 5 and June 6. So if Spurs players play in the England matches, just a few days after CL final, there is just about 3 weeks available for them to have a holiday after the England matches and start of pre-season.

I suspect the likes of Kane, Dele, Rose, Dier, Trippier and Winks would like to play the England games, but is it time for Poch/Levy to have a firm word with The FA and Southgate and say the Spurs players did their bit last summer - and the lack of rest last summer has badly impacted this season through multiple muscular injuries (hamstrings etc), so its time the FA backed teams in Europe by not picking these players for this summer.

That way our players get a month of rest, whilst those players with clubs getting 7 weeks rest could step up and play the England games this time.

Oh and if Spurs players do get called up, they will only join the England squad a day or two before the England game after the CL final and a check up afterwards - so Southgate will need to have a heavy reliance on other players anyway imo.

Full 27 man E squad :

Take out the 6 Spurs players who will not be fit to play certainly the first E game and arguably the 2nd game after playing CL final a few days before and there are still 21 players left.

Job done ! ? (even if the 21 includes 3 Liverpool players and 3 GK's)

Typical of Chelsea to get Calum Hudson-Odoi and now Ruben Loftus-Cheek injured, just so they can't play for England and adds to pressure on other sides like Spurs !?

Tbh I don't think any Spurs or Liverpool players should be involved in this, it's just too damned close to the CL Final.

I don't blame Southgate for picking them (the media would have a go if he hadn't) but I do think the best thing for all concerned is for a number of withdrawals after the final is over. Behind the scenes Gareth should prepare for this and have alternatives in mind as well as advising these players not to relax too much!

Still a few players who must be on Southgate's list of potential call ups, especially if any of the initial squad are injured including I'd guess :

GK - Marcus Bettinelli, Nick Pope

Defenders - Chris Smalling, James Tarkowski, Lewis Dunk, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Wan-Bissaka

Midfield - Andros Townsend, the infamous Jack Wheel chair, James Maddison, Mason Mount, Adam Lallana, Lewis Cook (should now be fit ?), Demerarai Gray

Forwards - James Vardy, Tammy Abraham, Danny Ings

Then there are the current E u21 squad.

Not saying they are great players, but Southgate has more options than are often thought - and all (bar Wheelchair ?) of these have been called up in the last couple of years
