U21 euros this summer. France and England have both prioritised edge players for U21 where they’re eligible.

Branthwaite, Gittens, Wharton.

Cherki and Akliouche.

If these players are in contention for WC then it’s better they get tournament experience (hopefully winning) rather than playing relatively meaningless games with the seniors.

September squads will be more telling.

We play each other next week. 0-5 coming up! 💪🏻

Not sure if France will have the same issue but I think England U21s will lose quite a few players to the club world cup in the summer, the likes of McAtee, Rico Lewis, Gittens will miss the U21 Euros. Bit strange these call ups aren't with that in mind.

LET'S GOO - balls the to wall

With over 35 years of making no sense before let's see how it pans out.

He's taking the piss
No he is picking the players he wants for his team, to play in the way he wants them to. That is a managers job .
Not picking players because the press want them in.
Sven tried to shoehorn players in because they were big stars. Lee Carsley tried to get all the stars in and it was a disaster in one game.
Dropped Watkins because he obviously wants a big centre forward to hold the ball up. Hence Solanke as cover for Kane. Knows Kane needs speed around him so Rashford is in.
Joselu was in the Spain squad , just a premier lge reject.
Having said that, he says he wants to play aggressive, direct football like the premier lge. Try that in 90 degrees on a Miami afternoon after a full prem lge season.
We cannot play in very hot conditions so it’s all irrelevant really.

I agree with most of this - except the end. I find selections odd but ultimately Tuchel wants the players he wants, he's not going to do the Foden on left wing shite like Southgate just because Foden is very good at football. He will have an actual plan - fine, let's see how it goes. Henderson I assume is there because he's a good mascot and that's more useful to him than a Lewis Cook.

But Tuchel will be well aware of how the heat will impact us. He's an incredibly intelligent person and tactically brilliant, so if we've thought of the weather impact, so will he. He knows what he is doing and I trust him to execute it. Country needs to get behind this guy as unlike Southgate he has a proven track record.

I really do think that the wealth of the pl teams and their academies means that our squads will generally get better and better.

That so called Golden Generation may have had a good XI but the bench was thin, no question.

Just a shame that the past few years weve had one of the worst football managers in our history. Tuchel taking over 8 years ago and I'm convinced wed have won at least one trophy

They also played as individuals. On top of that, most Nations were much stronger then. Netherlands, Germany, Italy among others. And also the lack of balance in midfield which never seemed to be address by any manager back then really cost us. Someone needed to be strong enough to bench one of Lampard or Gerrard for the good of the team.

People will talk individuals but go and have a look at the Brazil team that knocked us out of a WC for example, and tell me we were more talented..

Golden generations failure gets overrated - it was a bit of a golden generation for world talent. Relative to other countries our squad is more talented now.

Now I think France are objectively more talented now (I wasn't sure as of last Euros, think they've pushed on and we've maybe regressed a bit since) and we're in the same ball park as a handful of others. Spain are on their own as a side who can play as a real team with identity and also have lots of talent.

We're probably 4th/5th favourite for the WC and that's fine. I think Tuchel could be a huge difference maker tactically but hard to tell.

Probably a higher injury risk not getting picked and having a full week of Ange training

if we'd had someone like Anceloti hed have taken them to the training ground and said - look guys, I'd like to include you both in the team, but I can't obviously see how I can do it. Can I leave you both to see what you think?

Allegedly he'd done something like that at one of his clubs prob Real M and at the end of the session they'd worked it out themsleves. That sort of thinking is streets ahead of the capability of most of the managers that the FA have selected. Get the players empowered to make the decision themselves and then they fucking own it and will make it work
