I get that. But we all knew before a ball was kicked that Foden as a false 9 would amount to shit. So it was a waste of time.

Hindsight is a blessing I guess...

Pretty sure the man in charge knows about his team more than anyone else though so there's that.

Again no obvious solution. If he played Watkins and he bombed (just as likely) folk would be asking him to something different so he can't win.

As I said though hes not judged by these results or performances, he will be judged on the World Cup.

I just hate seeing players shoehorned into the team. Foden shouldn't be starting as an 8 or 10, his actual position, never mind as a 9. While the likes of Solanke and DCL may also not have scored if they started, they at least make the runs you would expect from a striker, which in turn creates space for others, and also gives you a focal point. Foden gives you absolutely none of that.

I'm not bothered about the results. We lost 0-4 at home to Hungary not too long ago before then going on to make a final.

Pretty sue the idea is for him to drop deep and Bowen and Gordon make the runs to stretch the defence but what do I know

That said Japan were pretty impressive last night, their weight of passing is superb, defended really well as well, could be dark horses for the WC because as well as having good technical ability they seemed to have upped their physicality this time around.

You need to be able to get hold of the ball and keep it though for that to happen. Foden doesn't and will never off that. Welbeck would have been able to, which makes his none incliuion even more baffling. Solanke may not have offered a lot on the ball last night but him just occupying defenders meant we could actually create now and again.

I agree about Japan, which is why our largely B team shouldn't be pulled to pieces over losing to them by a goal.

Pep made it work with Foden as a false 9 in the Premier League, I don't think it's a tactical disaster class as you're making out.

England aren't City. Plus the version of Foden that played as a 9 for them in the past is a damn sight better than the one that turns up for England, so it's beyond comparison. I used to be a massive fan of Foden but he's fallen off a cliff. I don't know if it's a mental thing or if he just needs a move.

Apparently no Palmer, Foden, MGW or Bowen in the WC sauad.

MGW is really unlucky but with Bellingham and Rogers around he wouldn't have kicked a ball. Glad that Tuchel has had the sack to bin Foden and Palmer. I still rate Palmer highly but playing through injury this season has been a really bad decision. Personally I would have taken Maguire. He's never let England down and has had a solid season for United. I bloody well hope we don't take big Dan Burn instead.

Toney is probably the most complete out of the Kane alternatives and knows where the net is. So don't mind him and an in form Watkins being the other two strikers.

Would have thought he would have taken Palmer for the unpredictability and magic.

All eyes on Tuchel in the Summer, he's put a lot of pressure on himself so let's see.

I suppose in his defence he is doing it his way. Not picking the best players but picking a squad he feels best fits his tactics. However if you do that you have to get results no ifs no buts. If we do poor he will be seen as a massive failure. He will need to get to the semis at least to justify it.

Media are gonna be onto him if he doesn't win this tournament.
