It was probably him or Maguire. Not sure who I’d take out of the two. Maguire for experience of losing tournaments or Burn who he’s had in the squad from the start. I can see why he is going. The one I don’t get is Lewis Hall. Been the best left back for most of the season alongside o’reilly and Luke shaw.

Edit: just saw this, probably explains it.

I think Maguire wouldn’t be happy sitting on the bench whereas Burn is probably fine with it and expects it. Whereas Maguire has barely missed a match in tournament football for 10 years. I think it’s these little things that we don’t really think about whereas managers have to.

He did get an England call up late last year and think he was rumoured to be in Tuchel's thinking.

Looking at the rumoured squad, I'm guessing Mainoo's the most likely guy Scott could've come in for? And Mainoo's got a lot more big game and international experience so I kinda get it. Think Anderson and Rice will be the first choice pairing regardless, and Henderson's clearly there in a pseudo-mascot/leadership capacity. Will be worried if the latter gets on the pitch unless it's to help us see out an easy group game and spare the legs of the first 11.

Mainoo has talent and is good at progressing the ball, but I think Scott is a better all rounder. But then again if I was picking between Scott and Wharton, I’d go for the latter. Suppose we should be grateful we actually have good choices now as there was a time we were relying on Kalvin Phillips!

While you may not agree with him on every selection (I don't) It's nice to see a manger just 100% pick players he thinks will do the best job and not just get pressured by talksport or other Z tier media outlets.

Foden in particular is absolutely finished and even when wasn't he never performed for England a single time but Southgate kept trying to shoe horn him in regardless.

Yeah I agree with this. Ultimately he’s gone with the players he thinks will suit the way he wants us to play.

I think we can safely assume he wants a very physical team, with lots of runners around Kane. He’s not bringing passengers.

It might work, it might not. But whilst I might think Maguire deserved a spot over Burn, I’m not gonna lose my shit over it. I don’t think anyone he’s left at home is worth that much bother.

No Hall is a joke though when he’s arguably been the best LB in the Premier League this season. I mean it’s not even O’Reilly’s favoured position. You’re then left with either Livramento playing at LB, which he can do but isn’t better than Hall, or Dan twatting Burn.

Anderson has to start though for the balance he brings. Personally I’d rather drop Rice for Bellingham rather than Anderson.
Rice has got fantastic energy. Positionally spot on and drives you forward and gets back and does his defensive duty he's undroppable for me currently. Anderson has been excellent in both an England shirt and a Forrest one. It's good to have options in there that's for sure. It may well be the case that he starts Anderson and Bellingham together. Either way Anderson,Rice,Bellingham,Rodgers are brilliant options in there to have. Throw Eze (im guessing) and it feels like we have some fantastic options centrally right now.

That's his one big mistake for me. I like O'Reilly but Shaw is a natural left back that can defend and hall I think within a couple of years will be the standout left back for England.

Central midfield is suddenly a massive positive and it’s not always been like that. Gibbs-White, Wharton, Lewis-Skelly, Scott and Garner will all be sitting at home or on a beach, yet I would have been happy to see any in the squad.
