I read that he collided with a wall off the pitch. Assume it was a wall close to the playing surface and he couldn’t stop his momentum in trying to reach a ball or some such.

Tragic story.

RIP

It’s a tragic accident. Bit like that ice hockey guy who had his neck sliced. You’re wondering if it’s lucky it’s not happened before or is it a one in 100’000 occurrence.
For instance more players have died of heart attacks on the pitch in recent memory due to pushing their physical limits.

The FA are getting pelters in certain quarters but most grounds you go to at lower league have these types of walls around the pitch.

If they say clubs have to change that then it’s going to be a real problem for a lot of clubs to get that work done if they get given specific timeframes.

Not sure what the answer is going to be tbh.

Even large football stadiums around the country have huge slopes as they get near the goal too. Man uniteds is super steep with bricks at the bottom!

Don’t know where the line is drawn at a safe run off distance. The London stadium???

There was another player, a few years ago, who ran into a breeze block wall that was right next to the pitch, & he had to relearn everything.

Unfortunately there is the small risk in almost every sport that something dreadful can happen leading to serious injury or even fatality.
