The author begins his article by comparing the present day to times past, he tries to argue that it is no better than what it is now. But it seems to me that he answers his own argument with this statement;

that the Tottenham crowd could be tough but that he respected their right to voice complaints for sloppy performances – and that more often than not the home support was positive and loud.

This isnt true in the present time so the comparison isnt valid.
 
Agree with most of it, especially the bit about keeping this sort of stuff in the dressing room, especially as the press /social media just make the situation 10 times worse.
