My head hurts..... We are an absolute freak of a club. :dempsey:

Genuinely hate this race for four thread. It's what's wrong with the club in a sentence. There is no race for fourth the ambition is to finish every year as high as we possibly can.

Yep understand that but it's the height of what we also seem capable of.

It would be laughable to say race for the title.

It's one persons turn of phrase.... It's meaning less beyond that. They could have just as easily said "race for top 4" which has different connotations...........

The irony here is that literally in the post directly above yours we have someone complaining that:

"We [the fans] talk every summer like we are in the title race"
Wasn't complaining. The fact that we believe it's possible for Spurs to be in the title race is part of the reason we can be in pole position to get Champions League football next season but still feel like we are in a disaster season.

We will all probably do it to ourselves again in the summer, me included.

Came across like your monologue was focussed upon why other fans laugh at Spurs.

To be honest oppo banter means little to me........ I get more narked by how keen our own are to ridicule us........ What was once gallows humour has thoroughly jumped the shark into entirely different territory.

*focused

And it wasn't. Was in response to the tweet saying that somehow we are top of the league for form in the last 5 games and somehow in crisis.

My point is much more simple than that post made out. We have lofty expectations of the club in an English football system that Spurs as a club is not even remotely ready to become a winner in. Not complaining that Spurs fans have loft expectations. If it keeps the pressure on the owners in any small way, then great.

Leicester. Maybe Woolwich. So...??

We have had better squads than the Leicester squad that won the PL and better than the current Woolwich one.

No excuse fot us not to have been successful in the last decade and arguably we have been, not in the final assessment.

It's not just set-up but getting the best out of your resources more of the time. In that regard we have fallen short.

Leicester is a freak occurrence, once in a thousand years. They went from the same squad that nearly got relegated to winning the title. Whatever magic they used to win that then that trumps any squad improvements we have over that squad.

Woolwich haven't finished their season yet but the stars have alligned for them and you can't argue that when they were at the top during a January window they went after it. Last time wee had a squad where theirs is, we signed nobody and bottled it on Dybala. They also have that advantage of being in the old boys club when it comes to fixtures, officials and media perceptions of how likely they are to win.

Actually, the 2nd half of the season they came up, they finished as THE form team. I remember thinking they were gonna be a problem the next season. I probably even mentioned title winning form - without being too serious.
Match week 29 they were bottom. Then they won 7 of the next 9 games to finish comfortably in 14th.
In fact, that run started after we beat them 4-3

Fair enough for your memory but it was still mainly the same squad.

They won the league with Wes Morgan and Rob Huth as CBs, Danny simpson in the back 4 and Drinkwater with Andy King in CM.

Sure they had Kante and Mahrez but that's 2 class players and Vardy off his nut on whatever up front.

Also did it playing counter attack football, the kind of football that we got slated and slated ourselves for when we made a strong start to this season.

If you didn't score against Leicester that season, you usually lost.

Proberly get roasted for this but do you really believe our squad is better than the goons?.
