Competition The Race for 4th

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Doesn't matter one fucking jot about last year.
We have won about six times at anfield or thereabouts, another example of Tottenham on the road again not being up to it.
If we don't lose it will some sort of event that only happens at Lourdes.

33-1 may look like great value if Spurs get past AC Milan and then bring Poch back for the Hollywood ending as Woolwich blow the league.......

I think in the context of how disappointing this season has been, the almost negligible impact of the players we signed, the injuries we've had and the increased competition for CL places, retaining 4th spot would be a huge achievement. It's not a trophy but it's a bit of resilience in the face of Woolwich and Manchester United winning the trophies we felt we should have been competing for.

I know Liverpool's 7-0 win over United doesn't do much to help our cause in the race for 4th but I am glad United have been taken down a peg. What hurts so much about United's success this season is that it felt like we had an opportunity to put ourselves in a class above them and we blew it. It's the same with Woolwich. We were the ones who got into the CL last season yet we've been completely outmanoeuvred. How does that work?

I guess the moral to this absolute bastard of a season is that sometimes things don't go your way and all you can do is hang in there and wait for things to pick up.

Easy, they identified their areas of weakness and spent a lot of money to bring in the talent. Casemiro, Anthony, Jesus and Zinchenko were all great purchases and dramatically improved both teams starting 11. Aside from Perisic, who did we buy last summer that has improved our starting 11?

So you are saying that threat number 1 and 2 (Toon and Pool, in whichever order you prefer) have tough fixtures in coming weekend while Spurs will play side in 15th place?

So... we have 0 chance to get 3 points then :D ....

Aaaaaand it is just went like this.

As expected - this round was HUGE.
We either could have gone 7 points clear of Toon; get within 1 point distance with ManU and keep 6 points gap with Liverpool.
Now we are 4 points ahead of Toon (with them having 2 games in hand); 4 points off ManU and Liverpool just 3 points behind us with a game in hand.

With this round and having to play Pool on Anfield - it is settled. We will edge Newcastle this time, but will lose 4th place to Liverpool.

That it very pathetic even by Spurs standards - to shit the pants so much, that you manage to drop out of domestic cup, this year CL and next year CL, all within one week. Majestic triple-bottlejob to be completed soon.

Really don't know what, is going to happen, could finish 4th but equally finish 8th.
I suppose being spursy, lose or draw at home to forest but probably beat utd.

well, we were all asking for a bit of excitement!

The only and I mean only hope I have is that we managed to turn it on last season with the same group of players to get over the line. So the players know how to do it. Of course it will be difficult but they have the experience.

Yes I know, the excitement factor hovers above zero.
I agree the players have the experience and know how, but would you trust them during the final run it.

We bought players who were thought to be quality signings at the time. United were jealous of Bissouma, Richarlison was meant to add a bit of grit to our forward line, Perisic and Spence were supposed to be the top class wing-backs we needed and Lenglet was our ball-playing centre-back. By most fans' estimation, Conte had been backed and we were all set for glory. We certainly didn't feel threatened by the Man City and Real Madrid has-beens that Woolwich and United were signing.

Then, Conte happened. He froze Spence out of the squad and claimed he wasn't his player, took forever to introduce Bissouma into the team, hardly played Richarlison and Perisic and Lenglet just haven't been the players we expected.

No game management at all, players who were supposed to add depth to our bench haven't been used and when the post-match press conference comes, it's the same old excuses about how we haven't got a squad to compete with the big teams. Sick of him.
