Competition The Race for 4th

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Well they have a midfield that can actually win and pass the ball and defenders that don’t stand drooling when the ball comes in.

I suggested a while back they have a better, more balanced squad than we do, and was met with outrage on here. Their squad is nothing special but its a solid mix of players and the average technical level of the players in their XI is higher than ours is.

I understand but Conte is different. Conte if he works on a project he does it to win. And to do so he is ready for anything, then leaving solid foundations (like Inzaghi's Inter which now seems to have become a phenomenon). If you stay this summer you will see a football tsunami.😉
I appreciate what your saying but I think it's more likely that we will break him.

Hope springs eternal tho. Unfortunately.

Time isn't going to imrpove his speed, unfortunately.

There are some players I'm comfortable pre-judging.

This is one of them (but happy to be proved wrong).

He'll come up with some nice through-balls here and there and the odd assist; but, overall, his lack of dynamism will limit his involveent.

And I think we have to play him here:

----------------Kulu-------------------
---Son------------------------Kane

To get the best out of what he does have to offer.

His lack of recovery will kill us if he's wide.

He's here on an 18 month loan - and we have an option to buy him.

If he works out - great, we will buy.

If he flops we can send him back only having spent a loan fee of about £4m/£5m so he's low risk

Hilarious reading this thread up until 9pm yesterday.

“We can do it” “We’re the bookies favourites for fourth”

Today? Not so much…

FWIW I think we’re a long way off fourth. It’s difficult to finish top 4 with a non existent midfield, and no decent wide players.

EDIT: our lack of quality in depth is really quite staggering. I was talking to my 10 year old boy the other day about his chances of becoming a premier league player.

“Listen son, there’s 1.5 million boys who play football every week in this country. Only 1% of Academy players will end up playing professionally at any level. And of those, only 180 will go on to play in the premier league.”

The boy thinks for a moment and says “If that’s true, Dad, how the fuck do you explain Emerson Royal?”

DNHOTY contender

The problem we have is that it will be very difficult for the club to convince Kane to stay if we face another season outside of the Champions League. The same may be true of Son.

Our saving grace may be if Conte and the club can convince them that we will make a GENUINE attempt for the League title next year - which would mean some significant signings.

Next up Wolves, City, Burnley, Leeds. 9 points from 12 is essential if we want any hope of a top 4 place; however with our current form it does feel that 5 points from 12 will be the outcome.

Spurs will now hope to have the strongest second half to the season as possible, which includes a battle for a top four spot.
However, Sheringham believes that winning the FA Cup could be more beneficial than getting a top four spot.
"If I’m honest, if Tottenham missed out on Champions League football and won the FA Cup, they would be absolutely delighted," he explained.
"They need the cup more than the money to go to the next level, to get the right vibes from everyone at Tottenham. They need to win a trophy. I’ve been saying it for years.
"That is more important than the money from the Champions League to Tottenham right now."
Spurs fans may hope they can get a top four spot and lift a trophy this season but it will be a tough final few months as Conte tries to continue his already positive impact on his new side
.

The above is pasted from Football London website but I agree with Sherringham. We need to win a trophy and the FA Cup is all that is remaining. Top 4 is not a trophy and when we had not achieved it then it was a target but we have achieved it several times now.
That does not mean it does not matter but it will not change anything. Next season if we qualify for CL we will need to play first 11 in all matches and that will hurt our League position. Whilst we know we cannot play our 2nd 11 in Europa or Conference, at least we can rotate some players. We simply are not good enough to win the League which we last did in 1961 or the CL which we have never done. Therefore winning the F A Cup is the next best thing. Getting top 4 just for the money again is not something that excites me.
The sentiments on this thread have changed since Wednesday but we should not make it such a big thing. We should go into each match wanting to win to end up as high as possible rather than targeting Fourth as any higher is out of the question this season. I hope we get it but not as much as I want to win a trophy.

Tuesday:
Man United v Brighton
Saturday
WHU v Newcastle
Arse-anal v Brentford
Liverpool v Norwich
City v Spurs

Sunday
Leeds v Man Utd
Wolves v Leicester

Who ever qualifies I don’t even think they can be confident of getting through the qualifier let alone getting out the group stages. I just don’t want to finish in that europa conference league again. Which is 7th place .

personally i would take the cup ahead of fourth agree with Teddy that it would be better .I feel we would do little in the CL and any extra money will not really change the way things are run .For me it is true that the big clubs win trophies and we should be doing that in any decade .

I don't think I have said this before but tomorrow is a must win game.
Wolves and Brighton need to be put out of the race.
You have to fancy Arse to win next week and our next game is City A.
