Getting 3rd gets a 20% share of part of CL monies, versus a 10% share of tyhat pool as Swiss Ramble shows in this table. The amount of money this represents varies depending upon how all the PL sides do in CL - in this illustration its an extra 3m, worthwhile getting but not life changing.
This slide show Spurs have probably made 64m so far from CL this season :
What we need is a good run in CL (and/or EL) for a few years to get a bigger 10 year coefficient as that is a significant factor in maximising CL revenues - easier to say than actually do.
Total prize money for CL is about 3.6 times amount of prize money in EL so getting 4th and CL hugely better than 5th and EL.
So in summary its worth beating AC to get to next round, but big prize is getting into next years CL. And in turn if we pick up most points from next 6 PL games we would probably try to go deeper in CL as we should have built up enough points in PL to be fairly confident of getting 3rd or 4th in PL and CL next season.
Getting past Milan would be brilliant, I am not sure there is anyone else in the last 8 we can beat ... unless another English club makes it, we can beat all those.
With the Goons tis often said 'form goes out of the window' with regard to the NLD and there have been some memorable moments even decades ago in spite of their so called superiority during that era.....the Rose, Bentley and Gazza strikes, coming back from 2-0 down to win at their place to name a few. We always do well against ManC, the feckers haven't scored at our new stadium and long may it continue. There were still a few quality moments too…. That bashing of the Goons was stellar. Wouldn’t have seemed possible 20 years ago
city away
Maybe a few years ago, now a days it’s a 50/50
If only 4th was a trophy. The desire to regard it as one is a bit sickening tbh. It’s certainly clear that Levy regards 4th as a cup but some fans certainly do as well.
120M vs 0.2MWhat's the financial reward of CL football compared to winning the FA Cup?
Inter/Porto? Benfica/Brugge?Getting past Milan would be brilliant, I am not sure there is anyone else in the last 8 we can beat ... unless another English club makes it, we can beat all those.
I think the max prize money for a team going all the way in the FA cup is around 4 mil. But then gate receipts and other sales have to be added.
Newcastle away to City next and we’re in for a Wolves so definite opportunity to open up a 7 point spread. Need to take advantage of their form. Few key games coming up
The moment anyone starts to try amd analyse where points will be won and lost is where it goes wrong.

This really.
If you told me we'd get 6 points from City, Chelsea and Leicester and the one game we lost we conceded 4 goals and it would be the Leicester game where we dropped points, id have laughed at you.
Just looking at this and I can't believe there's an international break in a season where we had a month break for international competition. So ridiculous, and it's probably going to help the Woolwich wanderers.Worth a reminder of our next 6 matches (in blue below) where we want to pick up as many points as possible to open up a lead between us and 5th placed and lower clubs :
1.... Sun 26 Feb (H) - Chelsea PL2-0 win
Wed 1 March (A) - Sheffield United FAC
2.... Sat 4 March (A) - Wolves PL
Wed 8 March (H) - AC Milan (CL)
3..... Sat 11 March (H) - Notts Forest (PL)
4..... Sat 18 March (A) - Southampton (PL)
International Break
5.....Sat 1 April (A) - Everton (PL)
6.....Sat 8 April (H) - Brighton (PL)
7......Sat 15 April (H) - Bournemouth (PL)
8 .....Sat 22 April (A) - Newcastle (PL)
9......Tues 25 April (H) - Manchester United (PL)
10.....Sat 29 April (A) - Liverpool (PL)
There may be other matches dependent on progress in FA Cup (QF 18 March, SF 22 April) and Champions League (QF 11/12 April and 18/19 April)
In May we finish the season with matches against Palace (H), Villa (A), Brentford (H) and Leeds (A)

I am trying to weigh up if the undoubted financial benefit from gaining CL football is more desirable than a 4th choice cup.
