Newcastle away to City next and we’re in for a Wolves so definite opportunity to open up a 7 point spread. Need to take advantage of their form. Few key games coming up
 
Worth a reminder of our next 6 matches (in blue below) where we want to pick up as many points as possible to open up a lead between us and 5th placed and lower clubs :

What we need is a good run in CL (and/or EL) for a few years to get a bigger 10 year coefficient as that is a significant factor in maximising CL revenues - easier to say than actually do.

Total prize money for CL is about 3.6 times amount of prize money in EL so getting 4th and CL hugely better than 5th and EL.

So in summary its worth beating AC to get to next round, but big prize is getting into next years CL. And in turn if we pick up most points from next 6 PL games we would probably try to go deeper in CL as we should have built up enough points in PL to be fairly confident of getting 3rd or 4th in PL and CL next season.

Getting past Milan would be brilliant, I am not sure there is anyone else in the last 8 we can beat ... unless another English club makes it, we can beat all those.

With the Goons tis often said 'form goes out of the window' with regard to the NLD and there have been some memorable moments even decades ago in spite of their so called superiority during that era.....the Rose, Bentley and Gazza strikes, coming back from 2-0 down to win at their place to name a few. We always do well against ManC, the feckers haven't scored at our new stadium and long may it continue.

The type of feeling I'm referring to only happens when you put one over opposition who beat us perennially and it is most satisfying, I won't deny it.

Just looking at this and I can't believe there's an international break in a season where we had a month break for international competition. So ridiculous, and it's probably going to help the Woolwich wanderers.
 
This is strangely optimistic for me... Sayin that I do recall having almost the same train of thought earlier in the season when I looked at our final 3 ish month 13? game run in , man utd Newcastle and Liverpool...are the only games I'm thinking thats challenging... The rest, honestly, ide expect us to win. And the feelin that were gonna have a really productive run in has to been strengthened with our teams recently acquired shape and balance. Top four finish? I'm thinking it's a distinct possibility.

I am trying to weigh up if the undoubted financial benefit from gaining CL football is more desirable than a 4th choice cup.

If its choice between gaining CL football and winning a cup, we are probably circa £100m better off getting CL football which in turn translates to being able to buy 2 x £50m footballers these days.

So its almost a question of how strong do you want your squad next season...... ridiculous as that sounds !
