The race for second place.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

As I understand it and I do not know the exact details, when it is decided which group a team is in that the winners of the league are in group 1. Group 2 is made up of those with the best co efficients and we get so many points from National history or basically points gained by English teams + individual points from our record over the last few seasons + extra for teams like Liverpool who have actually won the cup. I do not know exactly how it works and expect others will describe it better but last season we end up in group 3 and the sooner we get into group 2 and get an easier draw the better. It maybe that English teams are so far ahead with their points that it does not matter but there is also the question of being in Europe affecting PL performance.
That's changed for next season too. The national coefficient element is just a minimum now rather than added to our score. So Burnley still get the 20% of the English coefficient as normal to make sure they're seeded ahead of some part-timers from the Faroe Islands who've previously won a couple of qualifiers, but it doesn't affect our coefficient or give us an advantage compared to e.g. Celtic or a disadvantage compared to e.g. Atletico Madrid.

Wish we were playing these last 4 games at white hart lane. Instead of this shit overrated wank stain of a ground. The gaff gives me no confidence. I know weve had good results there this season but its dragged on too long for me.

Come on boys, lets bring the quality into these last games and secure that champs league footie to take into our new home.

I think (hope) now we will see just what our performance pay structure is all about. I'm certain that it will include a "top four" incentive but also hoping it works along the lines of significant reward for each place gained in the league. In contrast to Utd. Liverpool and Chelsea these clubs just pay their players big salaries (I'm sure there are bonuses for trophy wins, if so that's where their attention will lie).

Imagine, after all the praise and the ‘were amazing’ attitude from Liverpool, they finish 5th and don’t win the Champions League.
the nauseating press reports. how they are well placed for the title blah blah blah. Lawrenson claimed on the Beeb the other day that Liverpool are playing football unlike anything he's ever seen before, all that shite.
be funny as hell, what with Salah having the season of his life, 75 million on Van Dick, and they end up worse off than before

unlikely though..they get 4th at worst, IMO

Chelsea v Bin Dippers is now a big game for the Dippers ....

Love the way the media focus on 'closing the gap to Spurs' .... with our last four fixtures in all probability yielding a minimum 10 points ... it's the Dippers under far more pressure ...

Come Sunday 13th the table could well look like this ...... come on Chrissy H

City - 99 +100
Utd - 83 +42
Spurs - 75 +40
Dippers - 72 +42
Chelsea - 72 +32

It could do but that’s a lot of what if’s......

In the meantime they are closing the gap to Spurs though?
When you look at the current table we are just above them.

All well and good talking about points we can win. Fact is we have dropped points at “home” this season to lower half teams. And our form has dipped (with the return of Harry).

So I can’t really blame the media for being factual.

All this Skysports bullshit.. ‘Could Chelsea spring a surprise and beat Spurs to a top 4 place?’

We are more likely to finish 3rd than 5th! We have 2 games in hand over Liverpool, plus the play Chelsea next weekend.

Liverpool’s +18 goal difference over Chelsea makes it difficult for it to happen. I think it’ll be Spurs in 3rd and Liverpool in 4th.

Thanks for the Info

So judging on how becoming proxy City supporters last month panned out I assume none of us are kidding ourselves into thinking that Liverpool will do us a huge solid and beat Chelsea this weekend?

I’m pretty nervous about West Brom. They’re on great form and still have something to play for. We’re in stuttering form and need a win and a draw to guarantee top 4.

I really don’t want to go into the last 2 games still needing results. And I certainly don’t want it going down to the last day.

This weekend could wrap it all up...but we all know that it’s never that simple with Spurs.

:kanehand:

Nazis v Dippers is great .... will be happy whatever .....

Nazis lose it's EL time for them ....
Dippers lose and we're even more nailed on for 3rd ....
Draw and they're both losers ....

Quietly confident of third place

Listened to Talkshite last night (I know, Adrian Durham is a cunt but he’s doing his job)

They were having a go about our ‘project’ coming off the rails

Clearly not aware that 3/4 years ago Poch stated that in 3 years (.not quite sure of exact dates) we would be on the cusp of moving into a new stadium and challenging for top four

Well here we are 3 years later moving into a new stadium next season, been in top four last two seasons and again this season

Ok no trophies but Poch has massively overachieved given his resources

They then went on saying we should make more signings like Moura if we’re going to get anywhere

Really?

Not what he said when we signed him
Then apparently Moura’s signing showed our lack of ambition!!!

Make your fucking mind up you ginger Gooner maggot!!

4th and no cup for all their holler is poor.

Whilst it will make me nervous, them losing the final is best for us as it will mean they concentrate less on the league

He also said that Alli is unappreciated at Spurs and he needs to move if he wants to get the plaudits he deserves.

It's fucking professional troll cunts like him in the media that are continually putting the boot into Alli, he's appreciated by our supporters (mostly).

It does grate how the media have been ass licking the dippers as its feels like the have superseded us as "media darlings" in the second half of the season.

To be fair though, i am happy with the team being out of the limelight because it means the transfer target stories have calmed a little.

Our players are probably all leaving now because we are shit, rather than because the players are attracting attention by how well they are playing.

If that even makes sense.

Do we want Chelsea to beat Liverpool to give us more of a shot at third, or do we want Liverpool to beat Chelsea to consolidate our grip on 4th.....
