Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What is the claim here, exactly?

I also note how careful you're being to avoid the word "continuity" since Liverpool changed managers last offseason.

I have said or implied nothing to do with continuity.

The claim is that "the best squad" is not only heavily fickle, but it is also not really relevant.

Did Leicester have a better squad that us when they won the PL or the FA Cup? Did Crystal Palace? I don't even think Chelsea had that good of a squad when Conte beat us to the title. A lot of it is about cohesion.

I mean the ink is hardly dry on Kudus and people have got over it. It's a weird dopamine hit, and no one cares about what the manager actually wants - they just want to have some kind of little cup for spending the most in the transfer window. The best teams are built not bought

The Academy have been winning leagues and cups and they are stacked with players that regularly perform well at international level. It's not like they are trying to develop Lee Barnard or Jonathan Obika any more.
Really.

Won Premier League 2 in 2023, and that is a very hit and miss league, one week you can be playing a team with 2 or 3 first teamers getting fitness, the next week a bunch of 17 year olds. And remember the academy isn’t about winning age group trophies, it is about developing those 1 or 2 players per year that you can integrate in first team or sell to cover the costs of the academy.
We haven’t even been in the FA Youth cup Final since 1995.
I really don’t think anyone apart from Kane has come out of academy that has gone on to have a stellar career, best of the rest probably being Townsend and Winks in the new training ground era (Ledley Sol and Crouch before that)
I don’t think anyone that we didn’t take from academy when they finished have we regretted not taking.

lol , so all the club owners went along with the scam at considerable expense just to please us as well . Danny really never stops thinking about us

No - rather than people are completely ignorant of actually good business and want to be like Chelsea, signing a player every week.

Just look at this thread. People demanding to be entertained by a transfer posting bullshit comments about 'nothing happening' and being bored. There's absolutely nothing to be gained from it

You do know a transfer is more than just shouting a number in the general direction of the other team though?

Were we in touch with Palace about Guehi in 2022? Maybe we spoke to Chelsea about him in 2019? More likely, we spoke to Palace and / or his agent earlier in the window and negotiations carried on longer than we’d have hoped. Maybe, we’d been given the go ahead if Palace had got their replacement that they’d been speaking to over the line, but that didn’t happen as the club they were signing from didn’t get their replacement in. Because, transfers = difficult.

Even more likely, we didn’t make an offer at all, it was just paper talk.

I’d say all these are more likely than the owner of a football club just being tricksy to try to get some positive PR. You’d agree if you weren’t so blinded by your dislike for the man.
No I wouldn’t , i admit to my bias however his behaviour colours my opinion regarding transfers not my dislike of him as an individual.

Moutinho failing to get the paperwork done in time after working on it for months , yeah right . Failing with deals with third party ownership , I suppose we worked on those for months and the topic never came up .

EDIT: They were disingenuous fake deals that he either wouldn’t pull the trigger on or couldn’t in the case of third party deals imho

Have you not learnt from the other week when you boldly claimed we weren’t after a right winger that sometimes respected journalists/ publications DO know something.

It’s a fact we bid 70 mil for guehi on the last day of the window and they rejected . Literally reported everywhere by every journalist, on sky sports, bbc, the lot. You are jumping through hoops to try find an excuse for this bid going in on the final day of the window when we obviously knew it would be hard for palace to find a replacement so late in the window.

No, it’s not a fact. If it is, prove it. Not gossip, but confirmed quotes from either club, the player, or agent. Otherwise, not a fact.

And it’s those same journalists that all, to a man, say that transfers are tough and take ages. So you agree with me on that at least?

Maybe there’s the exception. I get that. It would be very easy to believe that Moutinho decided last minute he wanted out, alerted his agent, who alerted clubs. Pretty much what happened, I believe, with Rafa VdV - opportunistic signings.

Also, I didn’t boldly claim we weren’t after a right winger. I boldly claimed you were talking bollocks using a phrase like “a player the manager clearly wants”, when you, frankly, haven’t got the first clue what the manager wants. Another one of those pesky “not a fact” facts you like so much.

I suppose you don’t believe we bid for Gibbs white either as levy didn’t put out a club statement saying “we have bid for Gibbs white” Jesus Christ.

So you think it was just terrible luck that we were 5 mins late submitting the paperwork . You actually have a grace period if you have the basics done correctly to finish things off , although I can’t guarantee you did back then .

He is the highest paid CEO in the Prem yet we should at best accept the club lacked the admin infrastructure to get it done . That is the absolute best excuse he has

You really think that?

Kasper Schmeichel vs Lloris?
Wes Morgan and Huth vs Vertonghen and Alderweireld?
Fuchs and Danny fucking Simpson vs Rose and Walker?

Vardy over Kane - even though he scored less?
Drinkwater over Dembele?

Ulloah and Okazaki over Dele and Eriksen?
We might have more of a combined XI, shit we might have 8 of a combined XI, but that's also a bad Son, a pre-peak Kane, no Wanyama, a lot of Chadli, a lot of Lamela.

Vardy, Mahrez and Kante were on another planet that year.

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Morgan Vertonghen Rose
Dele Kante Mahrez
Vardy Kane
