Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Lloris in the last 2/3 seasons was an absolute calamity who cost us a ridiculous amount of goals.
Ridiculous amount would imply in the 10s or 20s, which is simply not true. Did he have some howlers? Yeah. But how many times did he save our bacon and single-handedly earned us vital points, uh? There are so many players who deserve the blame before Hugo does.

Fact of the matter is that he was a liability for a couple of years and we held onto him too long. And his last season he was a catastrophe. I loved Hugo, but God, he was a disaster at the end. Every game was something daft.
I'm hoping we don't do the same with Vic. I never made a comparison between the two other than that.

I seem to have stumbled on the Liverpool transfer thread by mistake.

I actually think they are quite similar. Both superb shotstoppers, but both had holes in their games - Vic with crosses and general frenetic jumpiness, Lloris with diabolical kicking and some decision making.

Everyone seems to want to get rid of Johnson, but he's got us a lot of valuable goals last season and always good for a late run onto the back post. What's people's main issue with him? Is it consistency or lack of ability to beat a man and cross the ball?

He's still got age on his side too and should develop.

Can't speak for everyone, but my issue is that he can't trap a ball, can't dribble with it, can't pass it, creates nothing for anyone else, doesn't track back properly or press properly, and though he does score tap ins, he doesn't score enough of them to make up for being shit at everything else.

This is probably Eze's people trying to to get Arse to move quicker.

You know how we know it is the agent and not a source within Spurs?

If it were a source within Spurs, it would say something like, “they are evaluating whether to monitor Eze” or “they are considering monitoring Eze’s situation.”

Without the key words like “evaluating”, “considering” or “monitoring” you know it’s bullshit.

On top of everything else, Johnson’s actual ball striking is pretty poor for a supposed lethal finisher. He gets into good positions but I cannot remember the last time I saw him score an actually difficult goal. Basically all of his goals are easy-ish chances. He’s not a lethal finisher or anything like that and in fact he often scuffs the ball from those positions.

In fact he’s the opposite of lethal. He underperformed his xG by 5.5 goals the past two seasons in the Premier League.

All goals count equal of course but if your only threat is running into the box and your end product, you have to be a gunman, like Defoe, able to finish difficult chances… he’s just above wasteful, an average finisher.

I'm not a fan of Johnson, and the above is true, but some credit should be given for his quick movement to get into the right place at the right time. Solanke is a far better footballer but doesn't have that.

I’d take a team of solankes over a team of Johnsons. Good all around players make things easier for teammates.

The solankes wouldnt score at a high rate but would generate so many chances that goals would come.

The Johnsons wouldn’t be able to even reach the opposition box. They’d maybe get a long ball goal every so often but they’d be permanently against the run of play.

If BJ gets better at areas besides scoring, he could become a winning player, but I haven’t seen it yet. I’ll be cheering for him to do well this season but I’d prefer he not be on the pitch often because from my experience, he’s a miserable watch.
