Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

One of my 'favourite' cases of overrated hype was two Icelandic players we bought about 20 years ago (David Limbersky and another chap I can't recall) for about £5m to develop in our reserves.

Lots and lots of talk about them. First reserve game they featured in we got slapped 5-0 and then I never heard from them again. Could still be around for all I know.
Emil Hallfredsson, 73 caps for Iceland?

It's ok lads another SC oracle has spoken and this time it's Trix with this very positive and revealing update
"Well we are still in for players and one hurdle at least has been knocked down. I don't want to say too much other than that."

This goes hand in hand with the other oracle Hercules saying this morning "don't give up"

That's gotta be worth a monthly DD of at least £10 if not more. Get your wallets out ladies and gentlemen
What a crock of shite!

Now pay up! 😂

maybe he ain't no good and we will drop 70m to find out. If Levy get's Ndombellied again then you can kiss goodbye to any big money transfers under his watch
Well thats the elephant in the room. He scored one league goal last season and looked all bark and no bite in the few games I've seen.

I do think the fact he's only 21 and that City are so reluctant to sell him speaks volumes about his potential. But you'd forget that he's a long long way from the finished article! I actually think Ndiaye from Everton would be a far superior signing in the short term.

ok, so let's break this down.
let's say there's a talented footballer at Senrab or in a school team or playing for his borough.
what happens? scouts from all the big london teams come and offer him a place in their academy? and this player simply turns spurs down?
or are we not in for them in the first place?
or are we signing more than our fair share of the best of london's talent and are ruining them?
I'm not sure how it works , but you would assume all the kids who look really good have offers from multiple London clubs. Maybe we just aren't as good at developing the ones we do sign as we should be?

The talent pool is probably shared around... decisions are probably made by parents... naturally, Woolwich will get their fair share, then us and then West Ham. Chelsea pick off other London clubs academies. Their view is that why put all that effort into scouting when you can just take them before they turn 16 or whatever the age is and don't need to pay a penny. So long as their scholarship has ended it's fair game. A very small percentage of these players make it as a pro. It's like throwing jelly at a wall. There is a bit of luck involved and right now Woolwich seem to be getting it in spades.

Wonder who we will throw money at on deadline day?

Villa for Rogers
City for Sav

Anyone else?
I'm convinced that our last roll of the dice will be a double swoop for Mainoo and Garnacho at Man United and it'll end in total embarrassment. Maybe Mainoo rejects us and we end up signing Garnacho for something stupid like 60m.

Just trying to think of the most embarrassing situation possible as that is what'll likely happen!

Emil Halfredson was the Icelandic player, Limbersky was Czech I believe, neither had any kind of hype surrounding them at signing, they were Arnesen punts for peanuts.

Of course at the time, our squad was very mediocre, and so any young signing was subject to fans online hyping themselves up beyond all reason, so maybe that's the talk you're remembering. There were tons of signings like that back then, it was much more manageable with fees being so much lower, and there wasn't such extensive Youtube and stats coverage, so they were a genuine mystery, Schroedinger's footballers if you will.

Reto Ziegler was the most successful of those punts, and whilst he didn't set the world alight, he didn't shame himself either, and went on to have a decent-ish career post Spurs, playing in Serie A and representing Switzerland.

We are targeting the right calibre of player. The names we've seemingly been strongly linked too are exciting and needle movers. The start of the window it was clear we needed quality to lift the ceiling not quantity.

They are just so useless at executing deals.

At this point im not interested in lowering the bar, id rather struggle like fick with what we've got, put the circa 120m we have into the pot for next summer with another 150m and have an almighty one after a season of frank laying the foundations.

But could we honestly sit here and say with any confidence that we would do that? No fucking way because there incompetent and out of their depth. Plus they'd find a way out of spending that kind of money and probably use it to build hotels ffs.

Shake your little head all you like but you know it's true

Show us the proof that we've signed top players with big wages under this tinpot ownership

I agree with you but it’s not the whole picture. Hincapie, Eze etc we can pay them what the scum are paying them. But they prefer that project over ours at the moment.

Players know that they have a stable manager, consistent CL participation as well as a good chance of major trophies.

We can offer none of that. It’s why I hate Levy for wasting the chances we had when we were doing great under Poch. Levy wasted it.
