Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It absolutely did not tie our hands whatsoever and we should have just walked away.

We didn't spend 30m on him just to mentally reconcile the 7m loan fee.

It's seems pretty straight fwd to me....

It's just a decision at DOF level (afterall; part of the point of DOFs is to make these decisions that transcend manager transitions)..... Lange likely just believes in Tel's data; to which Levy probably said "ok".

Not confused at all. Just listen to how silly you sound.... an obligation to buy a player who is essentially out of contract when that obligation kicks in... let me help you out. They will be paying a 12 month loan fee which may or may not be deferred in it entirety for 12 months and will undoubtedly be linked to performance metrics. If he stinks up the place, which is highly likely then there is not a cat in hells chance they will keep him. He will just be an out of contract player who someone else can kick the tires on. They are not buying him from us and redoing his contract. I can guarantee that. It's a loan. Plain and simple.
Eh, I share some confusion about the last year of the contract thing, but an obligation to buy means an obligation to buy.

It really is just deferred payment.

Savio would be a stupid buy. 70m for a guy we dont need

Go onto datamb or similar and look at the comparison stats of savinho to kudus.

Frank would absolutely get us purring with those 2 in the same team. World class potential wide forwards.

I completely agree with you but you and I both know Daniel Levy was never shelling out £8m for a 6 month loan without that loan fee essentially being accounted as part of the total transfer fee for the player. You and I both know that £8m was effectively a down payment in his mind.

No..... You don't "know" this... That's not how facts work.

Tel, Odobert, BJ. Meanwhile at 10 we have...
tumbleweed GIF

Well, we need both then.

Can people stop talking about Tel as a viable option, he's absolutely rubbish and the other two aren't much better.

What an awful selection of players, whoever approved these signings should resign.

Since the start of the 2024 summer window, so 15 months and not including loans we've signed 3 senior players over the age of 21. Solanke, Danso and Kudus.
I don't know how we should judge this.

In that period, we also bought Gray and Bergvall, integral members of the squad even if they fall below the 21y age boundary.

I also count 8 senior players signed in the year prior to the summer 2024 window.

I don't know what's acceptable or unacceptable, but it looks reasonably good to me.

Let me make it simple... it's a one season rental which they will pay for... there is no way they are going to take over the registration of a player with a suspect temperament for longer than 12 months. I'm not even going to debate this anymore... it's just ridiculous...

Theoretically plausible.... But in a lot of cases; no we have a spiteful element to our fanbase who can't regulate themselves.
Hard to disagree with that, to be fair.
This isn't true though.... We were chipping away at signing him for weeks..... The deal went cold and then came 'alive' again towards the end of the window.
We were mired in the bottom half under a manager who looked clueless overseeing a 2nd major injury crisis, I've massive doubts that Tel was our number one pick to strengthen our LW/ST backup that window, very likely he was one of very few options that the club and player were open to moving that window, and realistically for what he provided we genuinely would have fared no worse chucking an academy player in, so if that's our "top pick" based on scouting data, you have to really fucking fear for our scouting department.
Even someone like me that doesn't watch a great deal of European football knew who he was.
Let's not pretend he's actually done anything noteworthy beyond being bought by Bayern for a big fee for a teenager for anyone to have sat up and taken notice of him across Europe.
Sorry; but spending 40m for some minor PR win is not "cheap, bald cunt" behaviour.

Bottom line; if people are mad we sign the permanent deal on him then fair enough; but ffs can we not weaponise all this baggage against the player....... We've already seen how toxic our fans can get with Johnson last season. He's 20 and there's no reason to write him off so vehemently.
I wouldn't say "minor PR win", I think criticism genuinely bothers Levy and he hates to be seen to be the reason the club is faltering, Tel was a desperate bid to stave off criticism and claim backing of the manager.
I really hope he can kick on and show us all a glimpse of something that has generated all this hype in his very short career thus far, but have seen zero in a Spurs shirt from him to suggest spending £38m all in and bringing an additional player in who gets in the way of a very promising academy graduate down the line in Mikey Moore is a good thing.

how bad does someone have to be then? you might as well give every 20 year old in the world a chance if they can run.

you can tell a player after 5 mins, how the ball behaves with them and how their brain works. he doesnt have that natural connection with the ball like footballers do, hes an athlete, nothing more.
He's had fairly limited minutes for us, new league, new country.
I'm basing it on what I've seen of him at Bayern and at Rennes.
As for being an athlete, that, sadly, sums up about 80% of the football world now.

So due to uefa rules Chelsea have to show as much going out as they have coming in, thats the problem they are facing and the delay to the simons and garnacho deals. They also now interested in Lopez who is cheaper that simons.
To make it work Chelsea need to get nkunku and Jackson out along with any others for roughly the same amount.

We can only hope that they can't make the numbers work and Lopez ends up being a fallback option to simons as hes cheaper.

Im sure they will find a dodgy way around it but we may just be hanging around on this one.

Nkunku on loan to us probably in desperation.

Yeah sure, we spent £30m on Tel because he really lit it up on loan with us...
Do me a fucking favour.
